Heat Index
Heat index values are the combination of outside temperature and relative humidity.  High heat index values prevent the body from regulating its core temperature and may lead to overheating.  You can determine the Heat Index from the link below.

No practice or game will be canceled prior to the scheduled start time due to heat index.
Coaches and players should show up as normal and if the decision is made to cancel the event they will receive notification once they arrive.

However, please note that hydration begins BEFORE practice. Please ensure your player is drinking plenty of water (NOT carbonated or sugary drinks), even if he does not feel thirsty.

Provide ample amounts of water. This means water should always be available and athletes should take in as much water as they desire.
- Extra water breaks and rest periods should be allowed
- Watch/monitor athletes carefully for necessary action
- Players should wear lightweight material over pads (such as mesh)
- Helmets and other possible equipment removed if not involved in contact (ie, during conditioning drills, breaks, walkthroughs, etc.).
- Re-check temperature and humidity every 30 minutes to monitor for increased Heat Index

Provide ample amounts of water. This means water should always be available and athletes should take in as much water as they desire.

- Mandatory water breaks every 30 minutes for 10 minutes duration.
- Watch/monitor athletes carefully for necessary action
- Reduce practice time or Postpone practice to later in day if possible
- Practice without helmets and pads
- Players to wear lightweight material shirts or shorts.

- Re-check temperature and humidity every 30 minutes to monitor for increased Heat Index

Determining Heat Index  
We will rely on the National Weather Service forecast office in Louisville for official heat index readings. There have been issues before with different resources providing different information.This information will be used to determine whether or not practice/game will take place. This provider was updated on 07/26/13 due to the former site no longer reporting detailed information.
