2009 AAU Junior Olympics

Please join me in congratulating Cheetah athletes D'amaie Davis and Destiny Moore who competed in the 2009 AAU Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa on August 1-8. D'amaie is now ranked 6th in the nation after completing a new personal best in the bantam girls 1500m racewalk with a time of 10:04.73, and Destiny earned her way through the preliminaries to the semi-finals to the finals in the midget girls 100m and 200m dash,finishing 5th with a time of 12.76 in the 100m and 7th in the 200m with a time of 26.67. Destiny also earned her spot in the finals in the 400m dash, finishing 9th with a time of 1:00.75

Other Cheetah standouts at the 2009 AAU Junior Olympics include:
Nyjari McNeil,sub-bantam girls who earned her medal in the 800m run finishing 8th with a time of 2:46.76 and 5th in the 1500m with a time of 5:42.10 to add to her medal count. Sub-bantam Jordan Ross competed in the 800m and placed 48th with a time of 3:04.21 and 21st in the 1500m with a time of 6:04.66. Cheetah athlete Sijay Matsinye(sub-bantam) competing in her first AAU Junior Olympics also put in a good performance in the 800m finishing 46th with a time of 3:10.72 and 29th place in the 1500m with a time of 6:31.23. Another first timer, sub-youth Dominique Tiggs, placed 38th in the 1500m with a time of 5:33.90. Sub-youth Imani Jackson who also earned her place in the 100, 200 & 400m was unable to compete due to an injury. Coach Foster's only youth contender, Dorian Clagett, who secured his spot in the 100m,200m and 400m placed 46th in the 100m,with a time of 12.15, 39th in the 200m with a time of 24.00 and 11th in the 400m with a time of 53.05.
