Well guys, the week of the draft is upon us.  It's been a long wait.  No more fruity love notes about how great this league is.  Let's talk hoops.

This year's group of captains all have ability, but their team's success will depend upon their eye for talent and leadership intangibles.  The order has been selected at random ahead of the draft (contrary to yesteryear) so that the captains can have something to think about on the john this week.  Here is the draft order:

1. Wes Moore  -  A two-time champion in this league, (including a team he captained in 2012), Wes brings tenacity, unmatched interior play, and the world's longest pair of arms ever offered up by a Caucasian male.  Wes's near HOF résumé in this league is highlighted nicely by the fact that he almost decapitated a man during a draft party some years ago.  Sufficed to say, he's tough to contend with on and off the court.  Put him to the test, and I'm sure he'll be happy to backhand you from across the room on Friday.  Personally, I'd love to see it.

2. Colin Rigby -  Equipped with a deadly mid-range game and leadership skills that somehow led a board of education to entrust him with molding the youth of tomorrow, this two-time champ will draft wisely and integrate himself into a solid, unselfish squad.  Don't be fooled by the good guy pretenses though because Colin is a tough SOB.  Look for his team to contend.  If he drafts you and you play poorly, I'm sure he will encourage you with positivity.  After years of seeing him be so level-headed, one would only hope that Principal Rigby loses his mind on someone for our entertainment some time soon (see link).   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_FRWUPcR7Y

3. John Iovino -  A winner of back-to-back titles while leading the league in scoring (a feat that remains unmatched), Fair Haven's native son (est. 1994) and fastest gun west of 3rd Ave will have the third pick in the draft.  This perennial scoring machine has assured league leadership that his draft strategy will shock and dismay.  Iovino's strong points are a deadly long ball, getting into the lane with his pesky lefty maneuvering and, most of all, sheer determination.  It is my personal opinion that not having the Greek around to polish his shoes (amongst other things) could  possibly spring JI into his former championship luster.

4. Phil Conover -  The league is elated and extends the warmest of congratulatory sentiments to Phil this year.  Since tournament play has adjourned, the captain of the 2018 championship squad has been married, bore his first child, and moved back to his native Rumson, after squatting in Fair Haven for well over a decade.  Former FH neighbor and fellow team captain Marc Raffensperger revealed to league sources that it was  "about damn time" for Phil to pack up his shit and go back to Rumson...  Local unrest aside, Phil hopes to continue his trend of contending for championships in 2022.  The league hopes to keep seeing him make it to last call at Tommy's.  That is until curfews, kids birthday parties and ultimatums inevitably become a major factor in his life.  God speed, Phil Conover.

5. Ryan Seuffert - Ryan is a champion in this league already, despite being a relatively new face.  While the captaincy is usually reserved for league vets, the league seeks out Ryan due to his prowess on both sides of the basketball.  Hopefully, through league extracurriculars, we will be able to dig some dirt up on him.  He seems like a pretty nice guy and that's disappointing.

6. Marc Raffensperger -  And last in the draft order, but first in our hearts, the captain of the defending champions, Raff.  A delightful mix of inside/outside offensive play, Marc will get the 6th and 7th picks of the draft to play alongside him.  Raff has been a gem of a find for this league.  You'll find him slow-sippin' his way into a nice brisk walk home on Friday night. The league will take no disciplinary action against him for poisoning the well in matters related to Phil Conover at this time.

See you all on Friday.  Let's have some fun.  If you haven't coughed up the appropriate dues for this season, please do so ASAP.
As always, feel free to reach out with questions and concerns.

Best,
Navid
