 1) Does my daughter need to have played softball previously?

No. Kennworth park welcomes all girls no matter their experience level or ability.

2) How are age groups determined?

Age groups are determined by the players birth year and age at the end of the year 2018 / beginning year 2019 and not their current age. For example, if your daughter turns 11 on or after January 1st, 2019, she can still play 10U, as she was still 10, on December 31, 2018.  Vice versa if she is or turns 11 on December 31, 2018 she will play in the 12u age group as she is 11 on January 1st, 2019. If this is confusing just go by the birth year chart below. Normally, players can "play up" in a older age group if their skills allow but not "play down" to a younger age group. Experienced players also normally play up in the Fall, if they have to transition to an older age group the following spring.

Age groups consist of the following:

 6 years old and under  - 6U  -  2012, 2013 and 2014 birth years

 8 years old and under   -8U  -  2010 and 2011 birth years

10 years old and under -10U - 2008 and 2009 birth years

 12 years old and under -12U - 2006 and 2007 birth years

 14 years old and under -14U - 2004 and 2005 birth years

 16 years old and under -16U - 2002 and 2003 birth years

18 years old and under -18U - 2001 birth years

3)  How many games are there and how long does the Spring season last?

Each team normally plays 10 games each season. The Spring season normally starts practicing near the end of February and the end of season tournament is near the end of May. The Fall season normally runs from mid August to the end of October.

4) Where are practices and games held?

All practices are held at Kennworth park in good weather. If the weather is inclement they may be moved to a indoor facility nearby but this is purely voluntary by the coach and team. Most, if not all games are played at Kennworth park, with in park teams. According to the number of in park teams, a few games may be played out of Kennworth park with local associations nearby.

5) What days and times are practices and games held?

Practices normally alternate one to two nights a week as determined by the head coach. Ages groups 10U and younger normally practice from 6pm to 7:30pm and age groups 12U and older can range from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Games are held on Saturdays unless they are being made up from a postponement which could be rescheduled on a weeknight.

6) What equipment is provided by the association and what equipment do I need to provide for my daughter to play?

The association will provide team jerseys and softballs for games. A set of catchers gear will also be provided each team along with a couple batting helmets to share with the team. Most girls purchase their own helmets from sporting goods stores such as Dicks, Sports Academy or Hibbetts. Walmart also carries equipment seasonally. The helmets are required to have face masks and chin straps. You will need to provide your own bat, glove, shorts or baseball pants, socks. Rubber cleats rather than running shoes are recommended especially for the older age groups.  Play it again Sam's in Kennesaw has very good deals on equipment also. If you need assistance on obtaining any equipment please get with your coach or a board member as the association has obtained some slightly used but still serviceable equipment. Please wait to purchase your shorts, pants and socks as some of the teams like to color coordinate according to the discretion of the coach.

7) What fees and deposits am I responsible for and why?

The registration fee to play fastpitch softball at Kennworth park varies according to age group and season. You will find our fees are far less than other recreational associations in our area. Our association costs per player of team jerseys, insurance, umpire fees, background checks, certifications and promotion, besides the equipment and supplies we provide far exceed the amount collected from registration fees. You will find that other parks in our area charge a sliding fee from three to four times our amount according to the players age. At Kennworth we provide a means for all girls to be able to play by keeping the fees low for all ages. We are able to keep our fees low due to support from donations, our sponsors and concession stand sales.

We rely heavily on our concession stand sales and ask that all players have one parent or guardian to help man the concession stand once or twice a season for 2 to 3 hour shifts. We require a concession stand deposit of $75 from members which will be returned upon completion of your help in the concession stand. A schedule will be posted on our website at the beginning and throughout the season of times when your team will be scheduled to help in the stand or a online signup genie will be utilized. If you prefer to opt out of helping in the stand you can pay the $75 up front.

We are also required to pay Cobb County a fee of $25 per player registered residing outside of Cobb County. We collect this fee from non Cobb County residents when registering in the Spring and Fall season to go to the Cobb County government to satisfy this requirement.

8)  What type teams are you referring to when you mention "select teams"?

Select teams are girls fastpitch travel teams that play in tournaments in and out of state. The association allows them to join our organization for a donation in the Fall and Spring seasons. Girls have to try out to make these teams and their skills are advanced. The cost to play is considerably more and can average from $800 to $2000 per player per year plus travel expenses.

9) Can I request placement of players on the same team or request a specific coach?

You may make personal requests on the registration form. The association will do it's best to accommodate these requests but can not guarantee fulfillment . The only request that we can guarantee is that sisters be placed on the same team. Most requests for 6U age group can be fulfilled due to there not being much difference in their experience level. With the exception of 6U, all other age groups are evaluated and drafted to help in assuring balanced and competitive teams. Before teams are drafted in the Spring skills testing will be performed with the exception again of 6U.  It is also important that the prior experience and positions portions be filled out on the registration form for helping to assess each players skill level.

10)  Does the association require background checks?

To help in assuring safety at our park, head and assistant coaches, board members and anyone interacting with the team whether on the field or in the dugout will be required to be American Softball Association (ASA) trained and have a valid ACE certification with background check to be completed online. The certification and background check is good for a year or 2 consecutive seasons ( Fall/Spring or Spring/Fall). All volunteers will incur a $25 fee associated with obtaining  background checks, training and certification. The link for the ACE certification is on our home page.

11) Should I go ahead and sign up early online?

. It is good idea to sign up early online to assure yourself a roster spot on a team.  There are only so many slots in each age group that we can accommodate.

12)  What else is required after I sign up on line?

All fees are now paid online. Once you are registered look for a email or call from your coach within 1 or 2 days of the teams being drafted. If this is your initial registration we will need a COPY of your daughters birth certificate to be handed into the coach at the initial practice.
