POLS0N 15 RONAN 1* Pirates topple Chiefs in inaugural rivalry wrangle
by John Heglie
At O'Malley Park in Polson, the visiting Chiefs of Ronan and the host Pirates engaged in their inaugural baseball cross county conference clash further enhanced by Battle for the Paddle implications with temporary possession of the rivalry oar going to the victors. The Chiefs started well. Tristan Fisher reached on an overthrow, then stole second base. With two out, cleanup batter Coleton Sherman laced a double to left center which scored Chief Fisher. But that would be the only orange & black jersey to cross the plate the remainder of the contest.
The Pirates would load the bases in the bottom half of the first and tied the contest on a run scoring single by middle-of-the-order batter Cody Haggard. But Chief hurler Cash Atkinson was able to evade further damage by getting out of the inning with a pop out and a ground out.
After Pirate pitcher Espn Fisher sent the three following inning Ronan batters back to the dugout, Polson would erupt in the bottom half of the frame as they sent their entire order to the plate and then some to take a commanding lead.
The Chiefs managed to route one runner onto the basepath in the top of the third when a brushback pitch barely grazed the attire of Tristan Fisher. Fisher would steal two bases to put himself in scoring position. But Pirate Espn Fisher would ensure he was left stranded with an inning ending strikeout. Polson would plate a half dozen more in their half of the inning to account for the final figures.
Pirate Espn Fisher threw ten strikeouts in the one hit effort. The Pirates countered the Sherman double with a quintet of their own by Cole Wadsworth, Espn Fisher, Haggard and Hunter Emerson in the second inning and a frosting on the cake double by Zak Muzquiz in the third.
