Billings Central roll to first-round victory
Billings Central rolled into the semifinals of the Class A State boys’ basketball tournament.
Peyton Hanser scored 15 points to lead three Rams in double figures in a 57-37 win over Polson in the Butte Civic Center. Stats
Sophomore guard Chrishon Dixon added 14 points, six rebounds and three assists in the victory that propelled Billings Central (16-7) into Friday’s 8 p.m. semifinal. Shay Dantic scored 10 points.
Tanner Wilson scored 15 points to lead the Pirates (15-7), who head to loser-out play. Matthew Rensvold added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Billings Central led 10-6 after the first quarter and 25-11 at halftime.

Third time a charm, Maroons head to semis
The third time was definitely the charm for the Butte Central Maroons.
Butte Central knocked off Belgrade 48-38 this afternoon in the opening round of the Class A State boys’ basketball tournament at the Butte Civic Center. Stats
The Maroons advance to Friday’s 6:30 p.m. semifinal against Dillon.
The win was the first for Butte Central over the Panthers this season. Belgrade beat BC in a pair of nonconference games during the regular season.
Nate McGree scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Maroons (14-9) in their 11th win in 14 games. Freshman Matt Simkins had a huge game, scoring 10 points before fouling out. Sam Johnston scored nine, while Tanner Kump tossed in eight.
Dawson Fowler scored 12 points to lead the Panthers (16-6).
Dillon also beat BC twice this season, winning close games in Butte and Dillon.

Beavers hold off Hardin in wild State A opener
Troy Anderson stole the ball and took it the distance for a bucket with 4 seconds left, and the undefeated Dillon Beavers survived a first-round scare with a 60-55 win over Hardin this afternoon.
The game was opener of the Class A State boys’ basketball tournament at the Butte Civic Center. Stats
Dillon improved to 22-0 despite trailing 7-0 to open the game. The Beavers trailed by as much as nine points in the first half.
Tanner and Michael Haverfield combined for 35 points to lead the Beavers to Friday’s 6:30 p.m. semifinal. Tanner Haverfield scored 19, while his younger brother tossed in 16. Anderson scored 15 points.
Holman Real Bird and Darnell Left Hand each scored 12 points to lead Hardin (15-9). Left hand also grabbed 14 rebounds. Famous Left Hand and David Evans each scored 11.

Locomotives hold off Broncs in State A nightcap
Friday night will be rivalry night at the Butte Civic Center.
Laurel held off a feisty Hamilton squad 57-48 in Thursday’s nightcap of the Class A State boys’ basketball tournament. Stats
The Locomotives (15-6) will play heated rival Billings Central in Friday’s 8 p.m. game. That will follow the Dillon-Butte Central game, which starts at 6:30. (Bracket)
Hamilton battled back from several deficits to tie the game at 43 heading into the fourth quarter. Laurel, though, took over in the final frame.
Layne Willis scored 14 points to lead three Locomotives in double figures scoring. Christian Jones scored 13, while Dawson Cortese scored 11 and Casey Cole tossed in nine off the bench.
Hunter Omlid scored 13 to lead Hamilton (16-7). Carter Kearns scored 11.
