Dillon boys cap perfect 18-0 regular season

Tanner Haverfield hit five 3-pointers for the second night in a row, scoring 16 of his 23 points before halftime, and the Dillon boys basketball team wrapped up a perfect regular season by routing visiting Corvallis, 63-26, on Saturday.

The Beavers (18-0, 8-0 Southwest A) led just 19-14 after the opening quarter, but outscored the Blue Devils 17-4 in the second to pull away for good. Corvallis managed just eight points in the second half.

"We have tremendous senior leadership, and that's helped us prepare for every game on what was a very challenging schedule," Dillon coach Terry Thomas said. "I thought our kids did a nice job of finding a way to win each night, and they did it as a team.

"(The perfect record) was quite exciting. It's pretty special for our entire program, our school and our community. We're really proud of it."

Jamey Richardson and Jansen Anderson added seven points apiece for Dillon, which had 10 different players score on Senior Night.

Tyler Nixon's nine points led the Blue Devils.

With the Western A Divisional Tournament beginning on Wednesday in Hamilton, Thomas said his team isn't ready to look forward to a state title just yet.

"Our focus all year long is just on the next game and making sure we prepared hard and played hard," Thomas said. "That's exactly what we're going to do game-by-game.

"There's a lot of great teams out there, and any team can beat any other team on any given night. If we don't win (a state title), we'll still be very proud."

Top-seeded Dillon, which has a first-round bye, opens divisional play against the Stevensville-Columbia Falls winner at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
