 WP - Degnan

The Palm Harbor Hurricanes had the opportunity to play under the lights in the Toronto Blue Jays Spring Training Stadium Monday night vs Dunedin. With outstanding pitching and powerful offense, the Canes were victorious against the Falcons 3-0.

Senior lefty Riley Degnan was given the task to start and was more than up for the job as the southpaw hurled a complete seven-inning, eight strikeout, four hit shut-out outing for the impressive win. Degnan was dialed in early shutting down Dunedin with pinpoint location and a menacing curve ball that kept the Falcon hitters off balance all night.

Offensively, the Canes were facing one of the area top pitchers as well – but timely hitting by Seniors John Pichman. Brian Brown and Dan Hollander (2-3) put the Hurricanes on top. Palm Harbor got on the board in the 3rd inning. With two out, Senior Adam Jurco (1-3, 2 runs scored, walk) lines a sharp single to right field. Senior John Pichman (3-4, 2 RBI, run scored) takes a 2-1 pitch and drills one to the left center wall for a stand up RBI double easily scoring Jurco for the 1-0 lead.

With Degnan cruising along on the mound and solid defense, PHU put two more on the board in the top half of the 5th frame. With an 0-2 count, Jurco induces four straight balls for the walk. With Déjà vu all over again, Pichman find himself in another 2-1 count and this time laces a line drive to deep left field that just hits the elevated portion of the left field fence to stay in the yard for another stand up RBI double once again scoring the hustling Jurco. Senior Brian Brown proceeds to hit the first pitch for a single scoring Pichman to make the score 3-0 and the eventual end of game score.

Palm Harbor hosts Northeast Tuesday, April 12 on Senior Day with the celebration starting at 2:30 and first pitch slated for 4:00.
