RJFC Juniors Cruise To Victory

Cole Goumas runs rampant with four touchdowns as the Rutherford Junior Bulldogs (10-11 year olds) improve to 2-0 with another shut out, 30-0, against the Manchester Junior Falcons. Cole Goumas took the first kickoff of the game and ran it back for his first touchdown of the game. Aiden Doyle led the offense at quarterback for the second week, while Matt Scheibe had a big run and block to set Goumas up for his second and third touchdown. Luke Cerulli recovered a fumble to set Goumas up for his fourth touchdown of the game. Andrew Moller was able to nail down three of four kick attempts after the Bulldog touchdowns. Laudan Henry punched in the final touchdown of the game. Owen Fernandez, Ryan Ward, Chris Laura, Arthur Costan, Cole Goumas, Matt Scheibe, Yahya El Feshawi, Antonio DeCarlo, Laudan Henry, and Nick Lora controlled the defensive line to solidify the second Bulldog shutout in a row. Our Rutherford Mighty Mites (7 year olds) battled Manchester in their home opener in what turned out to be a hot September day on the blazing turf of Tryon Field. Our very own track star, William Holman, had two scores on the day, both made possible by lead blockers Damian Gregory and Sebastian Rojas along with a strong push from the O-line anchored by Vinny Urgola, Ayden Rivera, and Vincent Daly. On this day, it was our stout defense that held tough on Manchester’s last drive as Ethan DeCarlo and Will made a couple big plays to stall their drive, getting the ball back to their Bulldog offense for one final drive. Emanuel Arguello was the rising star on defense this week, having shown his teammates how hard work at practice leads to game-time performance. Our Mites anxiously await their next opportunity to defend their home turf this coming weekend where they look to continue their dominance of the line of scrimmage against Harrison. The Rutherford Pee Wee Bulldogs (8-9 year olds) The Dogs started strong, faded late, and lost a heart breaker 13 to 6. The Pee Wee Bulldogs fall to 1-1 in league play. Losing the coin toss, and kicking off, the Bulldogs immediately hit a big play with Kai Doyle recovering an onsides kick from Vinny DeNunzio giving the Bulldogs great field position. Two plays later RB George Brewton took a handoff following Emmet Carney and Doyle through the line, and raced 52 yards for a quick 6-0 Bulldog lead. The offensive line was anchored by Johnny Amatucci, Chris Kasperan, Angelo Pizza, JP Sprayberry, and Hank Schroeder. The Bulldog defense was solid for most of the game. Linebackers Myles Balchan, Emmet Carney, Safety Dmitri Paskas, and DB Xander Rodriguez were all over the field making tackles. Manchester scored on an interception returned for a touchdown and a broken play at the end of the half. RJF&C Senior squad (7th and 8th grade) suffered their first loss of the season as The Manchester Falcons won 19-0. The Bulldogs hung in throughout the game with the halftime score being 13-0. False starts and fumbled balls stalled any offensive drive they started. The beginning of the third quarter the Bulldogs started working their way downfield to try and get within one score. More miscues and missteps stalled them again. The Falcons took over on offense and finished the game marching downfield and putting the final score up with a minute left in the game. The RJF&C organization is home against the Harrison Blue Tide Saturday September 23rd, with the Mighty Mites starting at 4:00 pm. The Bulldog Football program (RJF&C thru RHS) will be having their Bulldog Beefsteak Friday nite at the Ames Ave Firehouse at 7:00 pm. Those wishing to attend need to rsvp skyfield6@aol.com & can pay at the door.
