WALSHAM RESERVES 3 BRANTHAM ATH RESERVES 2

14 April, 2014

Walsham had a scare in only the first minute, when Mann's firm header was ruled out for a marginal off side. Brantham continued to have the upper hand, Bryant saved easily from Stocker before tipping Gunn's effort on to a post. The visitors however took the lead in the fifth minute when Jones headed home unmarked from a corner. Adam Thompson chipped onto the Walsham post, then on a counter attack, Walsham equalised when Hammond clinically finished, following a fine through ball from Austin. Mid way through the half, the home side took the lead, when Austin magnificently curled a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box. Brantham looked to get back into the match immediately; Throssell fired over, and Bryant did well to tip Gunn's cross cum shot around the far post. Minutes before the break, Bryant pulled off a fine double save firstly from Mann, and seconds later from Gunn. Twinn had a chance to add to Walsham's lead, but ran the ball out of play when put through.

Only ten minutes in to the second half and Brantham equalised, when Adam Thompson's shot deflected off Virtue into the net. Bryant pulled off another fine save from Mann, Gunn fired over and Adam Thompson saw his shot cleared off the line by Smith as the visitors looked to take the lead. Gaught created two good chances for Davies as Walsham picked up their game, but both efforts cleared the Brantham cross bar. Mann seized on a poor clearance from Bryant, only to see his lob drift wide of the empty goal.  On seventy five minutes the home side took the lead, when Davies fired home from across the penalty area. Gaught had a chance to wrap up the game in the dying minutes, but James Thompson bravely came out and blocked his shot. In the last minute Parkes fired over Brantham's last chance, and the home side saw out five minutes of added time to record a fine victory.

Some of that was very good, Brantham are a good team with some fine players. Lots of effort, tracking back and playing some really good football at times, well done.
