2017 West GA Dixie Baseball
13 -15 year old league
West GA Dixie Baseball in Columbus is proud to operate as the premiere youth baseball division between Little League Baseball and High School athletics. West GA Dixie league is located at the Britt David fields behind Wal-Mart and Home Depot on Airport Thruway, known as the Dixie Baseball Complex.
The 2017 season saw a tremendous influx of 13 year old players moving up from the surrounding little league organizations. The best of that group will be putting their talents to the test in the Dixie State Tournament beginning Friday, 14 July. We know they will do us proud.
For the second year in a row, the team from Veterans Middle School, the Rangers, took home the League Championship. They will now start the 2018 season as the 2-time defending Champions. The team from Richards Middle School, the Warriors, put up a valiant effort and pushed the Rangers to the brink of defeat before succumbing in the latter innings. Congratulations to both teams on a tremendous season.
We also want to wish our 13 year old State Champions the best of luck in the National Dixie World Series beginning this Friday. We know Coach Phillip Clark and all the kids will do West GA Dixie proud.
We’ve received so many calls, texts and emails about fall ball this year, that we had to put out the registration info before school even starts. Looks like it will be a very exciting fall ball season with lots of new players and teams. With that in mind, here is the information everyone needs:
Registration is now open on-line. Simply click the “Register” tab to the left and fill out the on-line form. Registration fee is $60 per player and can be paid on line via PayPal or in person at one of our 3 walk up registration dates.
Walk up registrations will be held at the Britt David Field house on August 12/13, 19/20 and 26/27 from 12-2 on Saturdays and 2-4 on Sundays.
Players can register individually or coaches may register entire teams at one time. Coaches wishing to register entire teams should contact the league president directly.
Practices, as well as home games, will be held at Bull Creek field on Psalmond Road. It is the regulation sized field to the left of the Northern Little League Fields.
The first games will be scheduled for Tuesday, 5 September and the season will run through the end of October. Each team will be scheduled for 12 regular season games. There is no post season play for Fall Ball.
Away games may also be scheduled against teams from Phenix City as well as Smith Station.
Fall Ball differs significantly from our Spring Ball season and players, coaches and parents should understand the difference before deciding whether or not to participate. Unlike Spring Ball, where the focus is often on competition, winning and all-star consideration, the focus of Fall Ball is to provide a forum for players to continue playing baseball while also working to develop and improve individual player skills. While everyone certainly enjoys winning, the primary focus of our league during Fall Ball is to give players an opportunity to work on fundamentals and play other positions that they might not have the opportunity to play during Spring Ball. As such, we expect our coaches to operate with the same philosophy and concentrate not so much on wins and losses but improvement of the individual players so that they will be better prepared for the following season of Spring Ball. So with that in mind we hope as many kids as possible come out to enjoy the great game of baseball and make new friends.
The West Georgia Dixie Baseball League is an entirely volunteer organization; from the president to the coaches. We are always looking for quality coaches to ensure all teams have the necessary leadership and role models. If you are interested in coaching during the spring or fall season please let us know.
