Erindale Ladies Teams Top Division

Congratulations to our two Ladies softball teams. For the second year in a row the White and Red teams played each other in the finals. On Friday, the White team faced Etobicoke, that was a nail biter for 6 innings, before White broke away with a 5-2 win. For the Red team, winners of six straight pennants, the road to the final was not easy. Their opening round match, vs Mississauga North took two days to complete. After falling behind 7-2, Red fought back to trail 11-10 after 6 innings. As the lights were due to go out in moments, it was decided to continue with the 7th inning on Sunday morning. North was able to score 3 in the top of the 7th. In the bottom of 7, Red replied with four runs to force an extra inning. Scoring the only run of the 8th inning, gave Red the victory. After a one game break, Red and White would face each other for the first time of the day. White jumped out to a quick lead, holding it till the 7th inning. A bases loaded double in the bottom of the 7th, sent the Red team to their sixth Championship game. The White team was forced to play North for the right to a rematch with Red. White was able to dominate North, romping to a 11 run victory. In the rematch with Red, White jumped to a 6 run, first inning lead, coasting to a 16-7 win, and forcing a winner take all final game. This time, it was the Red team who jumped to a three run first inning lead, running up a 9-5 victory and their fourth MGSA Ladies championship since 2012.

Cardinals Midget Select Softball Win Provincial Gold

The Cardinals Midget Select softball team captured the OSSTA Midget Select Softball championship on Aug 19/20 in Whitby.

Due to injuries, and other absences, the team had only 9 healthy players for Saturday. Facing three round robin pool games, the girls started strong with an 11-1 victory over Waterloo, followed by an 8-1 win over Oshawa. Game 3 was a back and forth affair with Brampton, that resulted in a 5-4 loss and a second place finish. Sunday's path to gold would not be easy: four games in a row, starting at 8:30am. Facing North Bay, the team jumped on their pitching with two home runs by Anna and Veronika to win 7-4. Game two against Kitchener started off rough, trailing 6-0 after a half an inning. The girls rallied, halving the lead after one inning, and taking a 9-6 lead after 3 complete innings. The team was able to hold on for a 10-9 victory.

The win set up a rematch with Brampton, with the victor playing for gold and the loser for bronze. Playing hard out of the gate, the Cardinals took a 4 run lead in the first inning, adding 5 more in the second, on the way to a 12-1 win.

The final was against Topham Park, a team we had beaten three times already this season. An outstanding over the shoulder catch by Emma in RF, ended a first inning Topham threat. The Cards scored runs in the 2nd through 6th innings, on the way to a 10-1 win, and a gold medal.

Congrats to the entire team - Cassidy, Emma, Mackenzie, Veronika, Anna, Laura, Olivia, Madeline, Melissa, Bridgette, Sabrina and our Bantam call-up, Bailey. Players who were not able to be with the team this weekend were Joanna, Kaitlyn, Darina The coaching staff is made up of Roger, Mark, Ivan, Ross and Paul. The coaches are proud of the team who saved their best for when it counted the most.

In six tournaments this year, the team won two gold, one silver and one bronze

This group finished 2nd in 2014, won gold in 2015, 3rd in 2016, and gold again in 2017
