Parents of Seniors:

We need pictures of your daughter for the senior slide show.
Select your favorite 4 or 5 pictures of your dancer from birth to now.
You can scan them or take a picture of them with your phone, but they need to be emailed or sent on a flash drive.  Texting the pictures reduces the resolution and makes it unusable for a slide show.

Your dancer can give the flash drive to Ms. Tousley or email the pictures along with your dancer's name to karen@computrax.com

Studio Soloist Competition Information

If your dancer would like to compete in a studio soloist competition (not representing or affiliated with the ALHS dance team), here's the information:

Feb 16-18 “Spotlight Dance Cup”     Upland, CA   (Upland High School)

Price Per Solo: $135.00   Payment Due: Dec 20th (Before Winter Break)

Mar 2-4  “Thunderstruck”     San Diego, CA            (Location TBD)

Price Per Solo: Approx  $100-$135 (pricing is not yet posted on their website)  Payment Due: Jan 10th

***This competition falls on the same weekend as the Exhibition Show. If dancers choose to compete that weekend, its possible to let the competition circuit know that dancers are unavailable to perform Friday evening, March 2nd. However, if their age division and level is scheduled to compete Friday night, and they are unavailable to make it for that day, they aren’t able to receive any high score or judges choice awards. Their solo will still be adjudicated and scored with an award, but it will not be placed in an overall score against all the other soloists in their age division if they do not compete during that division’s scheduled day and time.***

May 11-13  (Mother’s Day Weekend)  “Rainbow”                 Upland, CA                (Upland High School)

Price Per Solo:  Approx $100-$135 (pricing is not yet posted on their website)  Payment Due: March 21st

•  Dancers are required to arrive 2 hours early, hair and make up finished so they can warm up and run their routines.

•  Dancers are required to stay for their awards ceremony.

•  These are considered “Independent” solos, not solos representing Alta Loma High School. Since it is a studio competition, there is not an ability to enter as a High School name.

•   Payment is due to the competition circuit 45 days prior to the competition date. If payments are not received ON the above mentioned due dates, solos will NOT be entered or eligible to compete.

•   Dancers compete in separate levels based on how many years they have been competing. For these dancers, they will be entered in the novice level, competing against other dancers in their age and technique level.

•   Dancers compete in a “style” based on their solo style. (Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, Open, Etc.) They will be awarded a plaque or medal according to their score.

•  “OVERALL” scores consist of ALL soloists in their age and level, despite the dance style. The dancers with the highest top 10, or top 5 scores will be announced an overall score and given an award for that if they qualify. This is an additional plaque, medal, or trophy.

•   Some competitions give cash awards for highest scoring solos. If the dancers win cash, the funds go to the dancer.

•   There are also judges choice awards for “best costume,” “best performance,” “best choreography,” etc. Dancers that compete in these solos are also eligible to receive those awards.

•  The purpose of taking dancers to these studio competitions is to give them the chance to compete their solos that they have spent the time and hard work on. It will give them the chance to hear judge’s feedback in how they can improve, regardless of when they compete. It will also give them the chance to be exposed to other dance styles and venues to further their knowledge of competitive dance and performance.

•  Dancers are not required to attend ALL of these competitions. We will come to an agreement of which competitions they want to attend based on the available dates. There are no other available dates for Coach Carla to attend these competitions with the dancers. If dancers want to attend different competitions as an independent dancer, they are welcome to register themselves on competition websites and enter as an independent, without having their coach or choreographer there. Parents are able to take them for this.

•  Parents do not have to pay to watch competitions.

•   There is absolutely NO PHOTO OR VIDEO that can be taken during ANYTIME of these competitions. Dancers can be disqualified if caught, or if parents are caught videotaping/taking photos. There are usually photos and videos available for purchase. Some competitions also have a live stream available for at home viewers to watch.

Important information: This year USA Nationals is during Spring Break & Easter weekend

This year Alta Loma High School has Spring Break the week of USA Nationals, it also happens to be Easter weekend. As we are getting closer to starting routines I would like to make you aware of the dates before money and time is spent on choreography, staging, and rehearsals.

Spring Break is March 26th-April 1st (Easter Sunday). USA Nationals is Friday (Good Friday) March 30th and usually small lyrical, small dance, and solos will perform on Friday. Saturday March 31st should be character and intermediate dance. Awards are typically over by 2pm on Saturday and everyone will be free to leave with a parent that afternoon.

Varsity and a few undetermined JV dancers will be in attendance of the dance team nationals. If this does not work for you please let me know ASAP otherwise I will assume that you are okay to perform on these dates.

Please plan to be at rehearsal the week of Nationals. We will hold rehearsals during spring break so you will need to plan to be in town on those dates.

Thank you for your understanding,
Ms. Tousley

ALHS dance team auditions for the 2017/18 school year will be held on Saturday,  April 15th, at 9:00 in the Dance Room.
