2016-2017 BREWSTER WRESTLING CLUB
Interest and Sign Up Meeting
Monday November 7th, at 6:00PM
Outside the High School Cafeteria
OPEN TO ALL ATHLETES IN GRADES K Through 6
Mission: Our goal as coaches is to prepare, promote and encourage young athletes in the sport of wrestling.
Through practice sessions we aim to positively influence character, build self-esteem, and self-confidence while learning the importance of good sportsmanship. This is a great way for athletes to stay flexible and active during the cold months of winter while having fun – lots of games and leadership opportunities during practices.
Practice: To be held Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 6:00PM to 7:30PM beginning on Monday, November 14th, 2016 and running through mid-March 2017. The coaching staff oversees a series of stretches, drills, instruction and supervised live wrestling matches. New wrestlers are welcome as all practices will be for all club members K-6 with varying levels of experience. All practices will be held in the Brewster High School wrestling room. It is recommended to commit to attend at least two practices a week.
Matches/Tournaments: The wrestling matches are based on experience and weight, not only age. Families can decide match by match whether to attend as a wrestler or a spectator. There is no pressure to compete as the goal is to experience the excitement and challenges at one’s own pace. Wrestlers compete against other teams in local counties. Brewster hosts a match at the high school which includes a team fund raiser.
Coaching Staff: Our coaching staff consists of Head Coach Cory Blad, Tom Looby, Joe Amuso and Bill Nemeth. Together these coaches have over 30 years of coaching and experience inspiring young athletes. In addition, from time to time, members of the Brewster varsity wrestling team and alumni will be available to drill and mentor our youth wrestlers.
Sign up information: Club fee is $175 which includes everything except wrestling shoes and a $25 USA wrestling card. All wrestlers will be required to hold a current valid USA wrestling athlete competitor’s card. This can be obtained (or renewed) at www.themat.com. Registration for the club can be done online at
