Cannons Rally Together To Donate 20 Care Packages To Our Deployed Troops

The Colchester Cannons are part of The American Legion baseball program. Since 1925, The American Legion, through its local chapters, has sponsored a nationwide baseball program to teach players the importance of teamwork, discipline, leadership and good sportsmanship. What better way to recognize the Legion’s dedicated commitment than for the players to support those currently serving overseas through the “Adopt a US Soldier” program. The mission of the Adopt a US Soldier program is to “connect supportive citizens with deployed soldiers.”
As part of the Cannons’ fall recruitment meeting, prospective players were encouraged to bring a donation to be sent to active soldiers. A parent volunteered to organize the collections and arrange the shipments. Through this process, the prospective players, coaches, and manager were given the opportunity to apply the teachings of The American Legion baseball program for the benefit of those defending our great nation.
The collection process was a huge success and upwards of 20 packages will be sent out in the near future. The contributions were very generous and everyone is certain the deployed soldiers will appreciate the effort made by the Cannons to make this happen. With luck, the goods will arrive before the holiday season for the soldiers to enjoy. The Cannons’ are planning another collection for the spring recruitment meeting, currently scheduled for March 2, 2010.

Goulet Chooses The College of St. Rose
Matthew Goulet of Milton High School has signed a letter of intent to attend The College of St. Rose where he has accepted a scholarship to play baseball for the Golden Knights under Head Coach Casey O’Connor. This past summer Goulet took home MVP honors in the American Legion State Championship Tournament and led the Colchester Cannons on their state championship run. Goulet has a career record of 11 wins and 1 loss with a 3.41 ERA for the Cannons, the loss being the only combined loss of his high school and legion career. Goulet’s major is undecided.
Cannons Purchase Huge Grill For Events and Rentals
The Cannons are now the proud owner of a huge grill which was purchased to help us with our summer BBQ'ing for our many events. The purchase of the grill was facilitated by Tammi Tandy who had the connection for the purchase. Money from the Chittenden County Baseball Foundation was used to make the purchase for the program. The Cannons will also have the grill available for rentals in the future and will use it as a fundraiser for the program. Cannons Ready for December 11th Trip to VA Hospital
The Cannons Baseball Team once again will be donating their time at the VA Hospital this winter. The Cannons players will deliver presents to the hospital rooms one by one and let the sick veterans shop for themselves and their families free of charge. The program is run by the American Legion Women's Auxillary and the Cannons have been helping out since 2003.
The 12 passenger van will leave from Coach Mongeon's house at 7:50am and return around 4pm.
