Hello Everyone, We talked about a few very important things in today's meeting regarding the start of the season. Unfortunately we are at the mercy of the weather and boys and girls basketball for the start of the season. Some of the things discussed:

Tryouts begin Friday for 10-12th graders with a 7:00 am p/c's workout. If you are not cleared by the nurse, you will not be allowed to participate in tryouts. Go see her ASAP if you were not on the cleared list as of lunch today. We will practice in the evening inside or after school outside depending on the weather and our basketball teams' success in the state tournaments today and Thursday.

Frosh will not begin until Saturday. Again, specific time for tryouts depend on the above factors. All players should be prepared for indoor and outdoor workouts. Anyone keeping their baseball gear in school should bring a lock for their belonging in the team room.

Tryouts will last for an undetermined time-frame as we want to give everyone the best opportunity to make the team.

By making the team, playing time is earned in practices/scrimmages. No player is guaranteed playing time because they are a member of the V/JV or Frosh teams. The freshman team will be gathering after school on Thursday, May 25th from 3:15-4:30pm to mark the end of the season. Freshmen will also receive certificates of completion on behalf of CNHS. Coach D'Angelo is moving down to Virginia for graduate school on June 1 and likely will not be able to make the program's celebration night.

Pizza will be served along with chips and sodas/water. Look forward to seeing you there!

Help is needed from 12-2

A few big THANK YOUs are in order for this past weekend:

1st-Thank You to the Varsity fathers, sisters and even grandmother who spent a few hours of labor each preparing the field for the season.  The group was organized by Mr. Pellecchia and did a fantastic job removing and tamping infield lips, lifting and leveling home plate, cleaning dugouts and even painting the interior of the home dugout.  

2nd-Thank You to Mrs. Horneck who organized, and along with Mrs. Kowalewski, chaperoned a canning drive today.  Almost every member of the Freshmen team and Reece each spent a large part of their Sunday standing out in the cold collecting over $800 in just over 4 hours. 

Every moment spent helping the program is greatly appreciated by the Coaching staff and the teams!!

First, thank you to all who took part in our fundraiser today.  I'm not sure how much we raised yet but it certainly helped in a big way as we had to pay for both SPORTIKA indoor workouts last week which was an unexpected cost. We will be having an important pre-season meeting after school Tuesday at 3:10 in the Health Room.  ALL candidates are urged to attend.  We will be going over eligibility, paperwork and tryouts.  All tryout times and expectations for the first weekend will be discussed.  Meeting should be done by 3:40.  Please arrange a ride home at that time.  

The coaching staff will be contacting the next 8 people chosen to go on the spring trip with the final 7 being chosen after tryouts.  The "next 8" will be contacted by Monday to get more information regarding the trip.  This is a change from the original plan but a necessary one after discussions with the coaching staff.

Thank you to the boys and parents who have had to deal with a difficult early spring.  The boys all worked very hard and there were a ton of difficult decisions but we have to move forward with a number that is workable with only one freshmen coach.  The lacrosse coach asked that if any young players get cut that they are welcome to try lacrosse.  If that is something that might interest you then see Mr.Ploe.  With evaluations completed, we have come up with a final roster for the 2015 Freshman.

It has been quite a difficult early spring season for the Northeast and for the CNHS baseball program.  We have done our best to get a quality look at each player trying out for the team,  Considering the weather and lack of indoor practice space I think we have been able to make a fair assessment of all of the young men who have put in so much time and energy to make this team.  Unfortunately, we have to move forward.  After much scrutiny and deliberation, we have selected our Varsity/JV teams for the 2015 season.

Thank you everyone for being patient regarding times for tryouts that begin this weekend.  Not only are we at the mercy of the weather but we also have to work with the other spring teams that need gym space while we wait out this difficult weather.  We had to await the results from Wednesday nights games to determine if either of the boys or girls bb teams will be hosting games Friday night.  (Both teams won and will be on the road Friday)  We would like to wish good luck to both teams as they advance towards a section championship.  Also, a scheduling conflict has added to the gym space woes as no athletic teams will have gym space available Saturday until the evening.  So we have had to make some adjustments to the weekend.

Friday-3/6-AM workouts will go on as scheduled for pitchers and catchers UNLESS school is cancelled Friday or we have a delayed opening Friday.  If there is a delayed opening, we WILL NOT have am workouts Friday.  Should we have school as scheduled, doors will be open at 6:45 for all soph-sr catchers and Jr/Sr pitchers.  Workouts begin at 7:00 and the jr/sr pitchers should be done in plenty of time to shower for school as less than 10 guys have to throw.  All soph pitchers should arrive in enough time to be ready to begin workouts by 7:20.  Most sophs will be done by 8:05 which leaves about 20 minutes to shower. All AM workouts will be held in the auxiliary (small) gym.

Friday-PM Frosh-meet at 3:15 in room C101 dressed for practice.  Frosh will be done by 5:00 and will be able to catch the late bus home.

Friday PM Upperclassmen-Unfortunately, we are scheduled for the late shift Friday-7-9

We will meet at 6:45 in the classroom and practice until 9pm.

Saturday-Upperclassmen-We have secured the upper bubble in the Atlantic Club (1904 Atlantic Avenue, Manasquan), from 8-10AM.  All candidates are expected to be at the Atlantic Club upper bubble turf ready to workout by 8:00AM. There are no buses.

Freshmen-There will be no tryouts Saturday.  

As per district policy, all athletes trying out for any sport must take a concussion impact exam prior to participating.  Anyone that HAS NOT taken it already must take it prior to Friday. If you have taken it at all at CNHS this year or any year, you DO NOT have to take it again.  If baseball is the first sport you are trying out for then you have to take it asap.

There will be an important pre-season informational meeting Friday February 27th after school in room C101 to discuss tryouts.  Topics will include tryout schedule for good/poor weather, what to wear for tryouts, where to bring your equipment, what equipment to bring, eligibility, expectations, communication and more.

Below are the 3 different groups we will have for our summer league. Reminder that a check for $110 is due to "Colts Neck High School Baseball" asap.

Our first game is home against Middletown North on Monday. Be in the dugout ready to go at 5:15PM for home games and 5:30PM for away games. Make sure to text Coach Yorke with your name if he does not already have your number. His number can be found at the top of the schedule given out at today's workout.

There is no practice/workout tomorrow (Friday, June 6th).

Closeout meetings will be held with Coach DAngelo and Coach Ford after school on Monday, June 9th from 3-5pm. We will meet in the classroom. These are optional, but for those who attend we will do our best to let you know what needs to be worked on this summer, our thoughts from this season, and will also help us get an idea of your offseason plans going into next season. The individual meetings should be brief and you may leave once your meeting is done. 

We hope to see you all there, but realize some may have prior commitments.

Reliever Sam DeVitis survived a bases loaded, two out, full count jam in the bottom of the 7th to help team Devitis win game one.  Down 5-1, Nick Umbro started the 7th with a bb, Jeremy Slad followed with a 1b.  After a groundout, Ethan Begrowtz walked to load the bases.  A groundout back to the mound provided the second out. Then Jon Weitzman and Andrew Conforti hit back to back 1b's to make it 5-3. Then a walk and a wild pitch made it 5-4.  DeVitis then k'd a man with a full count and the runners running for the last out of the game.

Mini-Tournament begins Monday after school.  Right now we have enough players for 3 teams.  If the "maybes" play, we will have enough for 4 teams.  If not we will ask the seniors if they want to play.  We will try to pick the teams this weekend and put them up on the website.  If we have you down incorrectly, please let coach Yorke know asap.  Games are M, T. The varsity team will be using iscore to score our games this season.  Google iscorecentral and use a code to be linked to our team.  Please email coach Yorke myorke@frhsd.com for the code.  He should have it by Wednesday at noon in time for the first game.

After much consideration and deliberation, the baseball staff has chosen the team(s) for the 2014 season.  It has been a very difficult process for the coaching staff, but with time restraints we felt it was necessary to pick the final team for this season.  The staff would like to thank the entire group of young men who tried out this year.   All of you have given much of your time and tremendous effort since March 7th.  We would love to be able to keep everyone who tried out this season but for obvious reasons we can not keep numbers that high.  We had 85 boys try out for the team this year and it was quite difficult to cut down to the numbers that we are at to start the season.  Once again, thank you to all of the boys for giving everything they had this spring.

For those who made the team, the schedule for this week looks like this:
