SPACES AVAILABLE FOR THE SPRING 2017 SEASON-email simon@columbusunited.org for details.
Columbus United was formed in 1988 and has been operating as an adult soccer club in Open, Over 30’s, Over 40’s and Co-ed leagues. I am now bringing Columbus United to the youth leagues. It will be based in Lewis Center and surrounding areas. We will have fields in the Lewis Center, North Columbus and Powell area.
Columbus United will be a small soccer club with no more that two teams per age group and we began the 2015/16 seasons with 5 teams aged 10-12 boys and girls. In 2016/17 we increased to 13 teams aged U8-U14. Moving into 2017/18, we will advance the age groups to U8-U15, so will offer teams for 2010-2003 birth years.
Columbus United will be partnered with 3 Lions Soccer and FastTrack2 and will be able to benefit from the new outdoor soccer field and the indoor soccer turf, fitness studio and media room at FastTrack2. As a club we will not have to worry about the daylight going during the Fall season or the fields being too wet to train on and having to cancel practices. We will have regular match analysis-training sessions in the media room where we can watch previous games or training sessions and analyze performances or coaching points. Often during the games players don't always hear every coaching point or may not understand coaching points. Allowing them to watch previous performances helps the player understand and makes the player more comfortable to ask questions.
I have coached soccer since the age of 16 when I earned my English Football Association Coaching License. I started coaching in England working with Leicester City FC football in the community program. I then became the Head Coach of Market Bosworth Town Juniors at the age of 17. During the summers of 2001 and 2002 I would travel to America and coach at high school programs for a period of 6 weeks, moving schools every week. Later in 2002 I moved to America after meeting my now wife (Kat). I began my American coaching career completing my US soccer C license and NSCA Regional and National goalkeeping licenses. I joined Worthington United under Billy Thompson coaching U12, U14 and U18 boys. My teams won Worthington United’s first ever State Cups in 2004 and 2006 with two different age groups. In 2007 I started coaching for the Crew Juniors and many of my former players went onto become Academy players and Division 1 College soccer players. My Under 14 boys team won the US Club Regional Championship and went on to finish National finalist in 2012. I have worked with the Crew Elite girls program for the past few years and my 97/98 girls team won the US Club Regional Championship and then finished 4th in the nation in the National Championship in the summer of 2014.
I am also a Personal Trainer and believe the players’ physical conditioning is a very important part of being a successful injury free soccer player for years to come. My teams have a fantastic history of staying injury free and I believe that is attributed to the training they receive. I was the Crew Academy and Crew Elite programs Speed, Agility, fitness and strength coach for the 2013/2014 and 2014/15 seasons.
