DCBL All-Stars
The Dodge County All-Stars fell 5-3 to the Iowa Western All-Stars Sat. August 22 at Rosenblatt Stadium. The DCBL jumped ahead in the 4th with Sean Curtis scoring on an RBI ground out by Chris Sintek. The IWL struck back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th to lead 2-1, then scored 2 more runs in the 5th to lead 4-1 after 5 innings. The DCBL scored a single run in the 7th with James Didier and Eric Dreesen each getting singles, and Didier scoring on a JJ Stecher ground out. The DCBL scored again in the 8th with Dan Maresh driving in Bryon Janata with a sharp RBI single. The IWL added an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th with a bloop double followed by a RBI single. The DCBL threatened again in the 9th, but a spectacular catch of a deep drive by Eric Dreesen resulted in a double play ending any hopes for the DCBL. The DCBL ended up with 7 hits, while the IWL totaled 4. The DCBL gave up 7 walks and 2 hit batters while striking out 9, while the IWL walked only 3, hit 3 batters striking out 7. Stadium announcer Keith Manak entertained the overflow crowd for most of the day, and then brought down the house with his Crawdad rendition of Take Me Out To The Ballgame.
