Diamond Devils back in action vs. GBA
The Edinburgh Diamond Devils return to action this weekend after numerous rain outs with two games against the GBA. A sweep would put Edinburgh back in first place in the Scottish National League so the games at Tollcross Park will go a long way towards deciding the title.
Club training continues on Wednesaday nights from 6pm and is open to all...
Diamond Devils secure first wins of 2009
The Edinburgh Diamond Devils opened their new home field with a sweep of the Strathclyde Falcons in SNL league play.
Game 1 would see club ace Jason Derr shut down the Falcons hitters whilst the offense contributed with the bats on the way to an 11-1 win in 6 innings. Dan Putnam would hit a triple whilst Shaun Haigh would end the game with a booming walk-off opposite field 2 rbi double. Derr himself would also add the first home run at the new park to his haul.
Game 2 was a tighter affair as the Falcons put up an early 5 run lead off of pitcher Valeri Wiegel. However, the Devils offense would get going eventually and led the home team to a 14-9 win.

EDINBURGH BASEBALL FESTIVAL - CANCELLED!
June 28, 2009
Due to a flooded field and unsafe playing conditions we have had to postpone this weekend's baseball festival.
We apologise for the short notice of cancellation due to the inclement weather.
Our intention is to stage the event next Sunday instead...further details will follow soon...
The Edinburgh Diamond Devils are gearing up for the 2009 Scottish National League season and have been boosted by a big influx of new recruits in the off-season.
The Devils open their account for 2009 on Sunday away at the reigning champion GBA ballclub which should be a good test of our off-season training schedule.
Diamond Devils drop opening games of 2009
The Edinburgh Diamond Devils would lose their first two games of the season at Tollcross Park against the reigning champions, the Glasgow Baseball Association. The defeats (game 1, 8-2 and game 2, 7-0) were mainly due to some sloppy defensive play, too many strikeouts and the inability to string together some key hits against a solid Glasgow Baseball Association defense.
However, a number of positives could be taken from the games, including the fact that 10 players made their club debuts with 6 of those newcomers enjoying their first ever participation in a baseball match, giving them their first taste of the game in a competitive environment and something on which to build the foundations of future club success.
Game 1 would see Jason Derr go the distance and take a hard luck loss as some shoddy infield play would gift the GBA plenty runs to walk off with the win, despite the game being tight until the middle innings. Game 2 saw newcomer Valeri Wiegel pitch a complete game but a paucity of offense would ruin any chance of a debut victory as yet again the visitors came unstuck in the later innings after keeping things close early on.

The Edinburgh Diamond Devils would like to thank sports photogrpaher Duncan Simpson for attending Sunday's games versus the GBA and taking some stunning images of the day's proceedings.

Union Park in Corstorphine is likely home for 2009
The Edinburgh Diamond Devils off-season talks with Edinbrugh City Council and Edinburgh Leisure have led to an increased likelihood of the club playing its senior team matches at Union Park in Corstorphine for the 2009 season.
The park is also home to rugby union and league and, unlike Morgan Playing Fields, has changing facilities and storage. The club is carrying out investigations in the next few weeks on the full viability of the site after a positive previous inspection in 2008.
The location on the western side of Edinburgh should prove beneficial for visitors and the location within a densely populated urban area will boost recruitment and local exposure.
Foundation for Sport and The Arts supports ballclub
The Edinburgh Diamond Devils were delighted to recently receive financial backing from the Foundation for Sport and The Arts for the purchase of essential new baseball bats.
The grant, in excess of £1,300, has provided the organisation with some new Baum and DeMarini composite wood bats as well as some Easton metal bats, boosting our equipment level and replacing our badly worn stock.
The ballclub sincerely thanks the FSA for their gracious support...
Diamond Devil features on BBC Scotland's 'Grace Notes' t.v. show
Diamond Devil Scott Spurlock recently featured on BBC Scotland's Grace Notes television show, hosted by Phil Cunningham. The show covered the history of traditional Scottish music and its cultural impact.
Dr Scott was interviewed on the religious significance of music from the past and was filmed in the pretty ruins of St. Andrews Castle, overlooking the North Sea.

Edinburgh Diamond Devils attain Community Amateur Sports Club status
The Edinburgh Diamond Devils baseball club has been certified as a Community Amateur Sports Club affording the organisation a similar status to that of a charity. The Diamond Devils become one of only eight sports clubs in Edinburgh to have achieved this mark.
The CASC scheme is administered by the Inland Renvenue and offers sports clubs similar levels of tax breaks and rate relief to that of other not-for-profit organisations and further consolidates a club's trading status. Gift Aid is now available to the club as well as other fundraising enhancements.
The assessment process has taken in excess of 12 months but is further evidence of the club's success in achieving it's development aims, a number of which are targetted for completion in the 2008/09 off-season.
The 2008 Scottish Cup proved to be an exciting event and a fitting end to the domestic season in Scotland. A three-way round robin format would be used again to determine the winner.
Three exciting games ensued with the GBA defeated the Falcons in Game 1 before Edinburgh joined the fray and defeated Strathclyde in game 2, eliminating the Paisley men.
Ths set up a terrific final game in which Edinburgh proved too strong for the host GBA and held on for a 7-4 win to seal the cup.
