Several different Eastern Shore Baseball Leagues have existed on DelMarVa for over ninety years. The inspiration of William R. McCain and others, the current Eastern Shore Baseball League (ESBL) will open its 33rd consecutive season this year. Five league teams using wooden bats and professional baseball rules, play 9-inning weekday games and 7-inning weekend doubleheaders at the Henry S. Parker Athletic Complex in Salisbury with a few games at other locations. League games begin in late May and continue until late July culminating in the Jimmy Carter Memorial Tournament. League and tournament champions then compete in regional games in Salisbury, MD with the winner advancing to the National Amateur Baseball Federation (NABF) World Series in Battle Creek, MI in August.
Showcasing the best baseball talent on DelMarVa, team rosters include former Major League and other professional players, along with current and former college and high school stars. Some play to hone their skills for next year’s collegiate season, some play in hopes of being “discovered” and beginning a journey to “the show”, while others play simply for the love of the game. No matter the motivation, all share an insatiable passion for playing baseball at a high competitive level.
New to the league this year, The Thunder will join returning teams: Georgetown Titans, the defending champion Perdue Chicks, State Line Strutters, and Tri-County. Limited roster spots are still available on all teams, so if you are interested in playing in the ESBL this season, please contact one of the team managers listed under the “Teams/Rosters” tab.
