Edison Angels registration for Spring Rec will be at the clubhouse on Kilmer Road from 7-9 on Thursday 2/16 and 10-12 on Saturday Feb. 18. Don't wait for the last minute to register. Registration Saturday, Angels Roll Back Fees and Offers Assistance
January 26, 2012 —
Edison Angels will be holding registration January 28 for Spring 2012 tomorrow from 10-12 noon. Registration will take place at the clubhouse at Angel's complex. Registration is crucial in the month of February as it gives the Board an idea of how many teams to form, supplies needed, and ordering uniforms. Additionally when meeting with other township leagues the Board needs to realistically present the amount of teams we will have available for League inter-play. With a pivotal window of opportunity the Edison Angels is offering several payment options to insure timely registrations. Registering in the month of February may not be high on every family's list. Other bills come into play and delaying registration would be a natural choice. To better plan and move ahead during the month of February Angels will be allowing families to lock into a lower fee with only $25. The remaining fees will be due in installments. For those that wish to pay up front the registration cost is $80 for Majors (Age 11 through 8th Grade) and Minors (Ages 8-10), PeeWees (Ages 6-7) $40, and Angels on Deck (Age 5) $25. Seniors (begins in early June) $40. Each division costs less than last year and will return to normal pricing after February. If you have paid already you will receive a refund within a week for overpayment. Lastly, for those who have had difficulty in the poor econonmy Angels offers a relief rate. Criteria is basically loss of income, job, divorce, etc. Contact Angels16u@edisonangels.com for more information on a relief rate. A Message From the Board - Registration Dates Set
(Newsletter can also be found in downloads)
Registrations - As it seems like the 2011 season just came to an end, the Board has been preparing for the 2012 season. Our first registrations will be on Saturday January 7 and Saturday January 21, 2012 from 10AM to noon at the clubhouse.
2011 Banquet - The season came to an end with a successful banquet held at the Elks Lodge on Old Post Road. Food, music, and a magician dominated the night. The Elks Lodge donated $500 to the Edison Angels at the end of the night. Many Elks members of this Lodge were once part of the Angels organization in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Field Clean-Up – Field clean-up was a large success with approximately twenty people lending a hand. The fields and concession stand have now all been winterized.
Pending Issues – As a new incoming president in October the honeymoon never started. The first order of business the new Board and I had to rectify was the lack of IRS tax filings for several years. According to the IRS the last tax filing was for fiscal year ending 9/2008. Fiscal year ending 9/2009 was complete but never filed. Currently a completed copy has been sent to the IRS and we are negotiating our exposure to heavy fines and penalties. Once caught up from the previous President’s neglect this Board will be putting into place checks and balances that will no longer permit one person to conceal poor judgment at the league's risk. Additionally it will no longer be acceptable for one person to claim insurance coverage exists for the league without providing documentation. The past two administrations lacked organizational skills to simply pay insurance premiums leaving the club ripe for lawsuits.
While many members complained of uncashed checks for registrations and other fees over the years, an audit of the cash room and several other cabinets revealed close to 10K in checks dating back to 2005 that were not deposited. The revenue at this point is simply lost however the Board has begun an aggressive scheduling of tournaments as fund raisers to restore the fiscal stability of the club.
Striving For Excellence – There will be clinics at Lindenau school beginning the month of January for all age groups. We have also been fortunate to have Edison High School coaches Jen Teffenhart and Melissa Jennings acting as advisors to Edison Angels. Creating a bridge to the high school program gives us the opportunity to revamp our program and fine tune it. With this in mind Edison Angels can once again become a feeder program to our local high school softball teams.
Pitch-in – Your feedback and input is always welcomed. Everyone’s willingness to contribute time as coaches, Board members, and support will only make this club stronger. E-mail if you would like to participate in the club on a more intense level. The website EdisonAngels.com has undergone major changes and is continuously being updated.
Happy New Year! ---

History of Edison Angels
With the permission of the US Army, the Edison Angels was started in the 1970's as a place for the young girls of Edison to play recreational softball. Over a 20 year period, the league expanded from one open field to five fenced fields with dugouts. In its 30+ years of existence the Angels have grown from a straight recreational softball league with all-star teams to a top notch recreational program and competitive travel program. The Angels have captured many ASA state and regional titles in its rich history. The Angels field five travel teams in 5 age divisions ranging from 10u to 18u, occasionally fielding an 8u team. The Edison Angels is an ASA league that has played Pony, NSA, and FAST National tournaments.
