Newton Advances to Babe Ruth World Series
The Newton 14-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team made a miraculous run this summer, reaching the semifinals of the Babe Ruth World Series held in Glen Allen, Va. It was the first time a team from the city has ever reached the Babe Ruth World Series.
Newton finished first in their division in pool play in the World Series before losing to Tualatin Hills, Ore., in the semifinals. Out of the thousands of Babe Ruth baseball teams around the country, Newton finished the season in the top four, garnering the attention of players and fans from around the country.
“The World Series itself was simply amazing, from the incredible facilities in Glen Allen, Va.,” said Coach Levoff. “The stadium was absolutely beautiful, with a perfect playing surface. In my opinion, the worst baseball field I saw there, and I saw dozens, was in better shape than the best of our Newton fields.”
“It was unbelievable how we made it that far to come to the final four in the country,” said Theo Resnick. “To play against teams from Oregon and Alabama, it was sort of unbelievable.”
“It was fun and made me proud to play against the top teams in the country,” said Kevin Alexy. “I have never played ball at this high of a level and it was a time I will never forget.”
Congratulations to the entire 2011 Newton 14-year-old Babe Ruth team.
Kevin Alexy, Spencer Anderson, Michael Barbieri, Curtis Beatrice, Ezekiel Berg, Isaiah Berg, Christian Cox, Douglas Friedberg, Naushon Galbraith, Tommy Hodgson, James Patti, Theo Resnick, Elliot Sackman, and Benjamin Wanger.
