Freshmen win 7-5 over CBA
From the moment the warmups commenced there was different tone in the air. The team was more serious than ever before about winning. Last year these teams went to extra innings to battle for the win and this year freshman wanted it again. Opening inning, Dillion on the mound, looking down at his batter his eyes said it all, he threw his first strike out. Batters 2 and 3 found the same fate. Across 5 innings he threw 9 "K's". Offensively the Dutchmen had a huge inning in the 3rd. Cole Campbell's 9 pitch walk putting two men on seemed to be a turning point. Mitchell bunted advancing the runners and filling the bases to bring Canchela to the plate. SINGLE!! Driving in the first run, followed by Hosey's single driving in another, Flaherty got hit, Dillion M singled, Campbell D & Dillion S walked stringing in 6 runs with some effective base running.......Although the CBA's coach made a change in pitching, offensively they weren't able to rally back. In the 6th they scored another with Campbell C single, smart base running and another by Mitchell taking the score up to 7. Williams closed the game. The boys ran off the field cheering, hot, tired and stained of grass and dirt from diving and hustling. It was a great game to watch on a beautiful sunny night.

The Dutchmen managed only 3 hits in the defeat by Nick Mahar, Brendan Curry and Sam Shah. Shah’s hit provided the lone run batted in for the Dutch. Despite the loss the Dutchmen Modified squad finished the season with a very respectable record of 7-4. A
