We're very proud of ALL the Gaels field hockey teams this weekend (14/15 Jan 12), who left their marks in Pennsylvania and Virginia. On Saturday night, U19 Blue took gold at a tournament in Downingtown, PA. On Sunday, the Gaels had a trifecta, when U12 and U14 won Gold at Typhoon in Fredericksburg, VA, and U16 Blue qualified for the USA Field Hockey National Invitational Tournament that will be held in March. Congratulations to all the players and coaches (and parents!) for a great weekend for the Gaels!
Gaels Teams Defeat Top Ranked WC Eagles over weekend

Congratulations to the Gaels U14 Blue and U19 Blue who each claimed a victory Saturday against a WC Eagles team. The u16 Blue defeated 2 WC Eagles teams to take the gold medal in the tournament, finishing 4-0, scoring 25 and allow 4. Congrats.
Our U12 Blue and Devlopmental teams and our U16 White and U19 Green all competed Sunday at Washington College - each team finishing the day with wins!
Further congrats to our u19 White team for competing in the Millersville Qualifier - finishing 7th - with a shot at the National Indoor Tournament in Virginia Beach in March! More details to follow!!

The Gaels 4th Annaul Hooked on Hockey tournament is set for Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex, 5001 Meadowbrook Drive, Ellicott City MD (Exit 1 off Rt. 100 - near Park N Ride). The Schedule is attached and under "handouts" as well. The Club welcomes some of the top teams from Maryland, Delaware and Virginia and the tournament marks the beginning of the 2011-2012 indoor season for many clubs. Awards will go to 1st and 2nd place in each age category - U12, U14, U16 and U19. Concessions will be sold This year The Gaels are working on a service project to feed the hungry by collecting non-perishable foods at the tournament by all team members and visiting teams as well. All foods collected will be donated to a local food bank. Come by and see some great indoor field hockey action by some of the most talented players in the area!!!
FESTIVAL TRYOUTS/PRACTICE SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2011

The Gaels Field Hockey Club welcomes players from all area clubs and schools to attend the National Field Hockey Festival with us November, 2011 with our U19 team. Tom Jester, Head Varsity Field Hockey Coach of Seton Keough High School will be coaching the team. This is a very big opportunity for recruiting. We will hold a tryout/practice session on Sunday, September 18,2011 from 11a.m - 1 p.m. at the bermuda grass field at Archbishop Spalding High School, New Cut Road, Severn, Maryland. Please sign up on the website - and pay tryout fee in person. If you are unable to attend this session - please let us know - we will take you on recommendation of your club or high school coach. Final Try Out Session for 2011-2012 Indoor Season - sunday, September 18, 2011

The final tryout session for the 2011-2012 indoor season will take place on Sunday, September 18,2 011 from 7-9 p.m. at the Maryland Sportsplex (old Benfield Ice Rink) You must complete registration on line - however - pay by check or cash in person that evening. The Gaels Field Hockey club will be making its first trip to the National Field Hockey Festival in 2011 in the U19 Divison. We are holding tryouts on Sunday, August 28, 2011 from 3-5 p.m. at Seton Keough HS in Baltimore. Gaels Players to Barcelona!!!
Congratulations to The Gaels representatives headed to Barcelona, Spain on a 10 day EuroTour field hockey trip!! Proudly representing The Gaels are Katie Audino, Erin Shanahan and Emily Lemanski!!! Gaels U14 Blue National Indoor Tournament Champions

Congratulations to the Gaels U14 Blue for brining home the U14 National Indoor Tournament Championship!!! The teams went undefeated 7-0 and scored 40 goals and allowed only 5! The team completed the entire season as National Indoor Champions, Maryland Club Champions, International Indoor Club Runners-Up, Training Center Champions, Hooked on Hockey Championss U14 and U16 pool, Greene Turtle Tournament Championss and SPark Tournament Champions - congrats to the team on a Championship season! Maryland Club Champions!!!! Congratulations to The Gaels U14 Blue and U19 Blue teams for winning the Maryland Club Championships in the U14 Premier Divsion and U19 A division this past weekend. The teams will take these championships in the National Indoor Tournaments in Richmond March 4-6 and Virigina Beach March 11-13.
International Indoor Championship Runners-Up!!!!

International Indoor Championship Runners-Up U14. The Gaels U14 Blue traveled to Feasterville, Pa to participate in the Big Apple/Field Hockey America International Indoor Championships where there were adult men, women, collegiate and youth divisions. The team fell to X-Calibur (5-3) in its 10th game in a 26 hour span - and brought home Silver plaques for each player. Congrats and looking forward to NIT - Virginia Beach!!! Go Gaels

Gaels Milestones!!!
The Gaels have qualified a U16 team for the National Indoor Tournament for the first time in the Club's history - the 2nd year of having a U16 team. Saturday January 29th the U16 team qualified at Rockville beating Capital Pegasus in the crossover match 1-0 to launch them into the final seeding round and a ticket to the NIT!!!! The team consists of Morgan Downey, Ashley Lemanski, Ashley Lesniewski, Morgan Bradford, Roxanne DeGuzman, Julia Morrison, Brooke Cox, Alisha Locklear, Danielle Maines, Kaemyn Pizarro and Sarah Asseng. The team will travel to Richmond March 11-13!!
The U14 Blue Gaels will join the U16 at the National Indoor Tournament for its second appearance in as many years and look to capitalize this year on the teams talent and strength!! The team played at The Training Center this past weekend in U16 and finished 3-0-1 - Congrats!
The Gaels U19 teams participated in the Baltimore Field Hockey Association Tournament this past weekend with the Blue team finishing 2nd in the tournament by a goal differential only!! Congrats to the teams.
Finally: The Gaels Field Hockey Club was one of 16 - U17 teams to gain entrance to the inagural National Club Championships in Richmond July 12-24. Registration was closed with 2 minutes of opening and 35 teams registered and 16 accepted!! Congrats!!

GAELS U14 BLUE TAKES GOLD AT TRAINING CENTER!!

Congratulations to The Gaels U14 Blue who took the Gold on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at The Training Center, home of the WC Eagles. The Gaels defeated Strong Island of New York, FC United of Connecticul, WC Eagles of Pennsylvania and H2O of Maryland in the Championship game. The team totaled 25 goals on the day - while only allow 3!! This is the first time in Gaels history that a team has defeated a WC Eagles team as well as taking home the gold!!! Congrats to the team: Coaches Kelly Shanahan and Joan Johnson. Congratulations to the U14 Gaels team for going undefeated, 5-0, on Sunday May 23, 2010 to win the Score for the Cure tournament sponsored by the Typhoon Field Hockey Club in Spotsylvania, VA! National Futures Championship - U14 Team USA North - Undefeated!!!!
Congratulations to the U14 Team USA North who went undefeated at the National Futures Championships in Virginia Beach, VA this week. The Gaels were proud to be represented by Danielle Maines who actually scored the game winning goal in the 5th and final pool game to determine the winner. The team allowed only 2 goals in pool games and were the only undefeated team. Danielle, along with ERin Shanahan, named an alternate, are among the top 11 U14 players from Region 7 - The Gaels could not be prouder!!!!!!

2 - U14 Gaels Players selected to USA Field Hockey's NFC in VA Beach!

Congratulations to Danielle Maines and Erin Shanahan for being selected to the 2010 National Futures Championships as part of USA Field Hockey's Futures program. Danielle was selected to participate in Virginia Beach this week and Erin Shanahan was named an alternate. These young ladies were selected as the top 11 U14 players in Region 7 - Maryland, Delaware and D.C. Congrats to both of the girls! Danielle will be moving on to play field hockey at North County High School and Erin will be entering her 6th year of field hockey with Monsignsor Slade Catholic School! The Gaels are proud of all of our Future players!!
U14 - Champs Again - Headed to NIT!!!
Congratulatons to the Gaels U14 Blue team on winning 1st place in yet another SPark tournament at the Maryland Sportsplex. The Gaels were champions on 2/14 at the Mistletoe Meltdown Tournament and again on 2/28 at the Paul D. Behringer Memorial Tournament - defeating SPark Blue in the championship game 6-2.
The team also placed 2nd on Saturday, 2/27 at The Training Center after placing first after pool play by defeating South Jersey Edge, Marajoka, and coming to a tie with WC Eagles. The team played Spirit U.S.A in the championship game but fell 5-4 in the final & very exciting game.
The team is headed to Virginia Beach, VA for their first ever appearance as a team and club for the National Indoor Tournament March 5 - 7. Although the team has drawn a very tough pool - their performances over the past few weeks has given them added energy and confidence.
The team for NIT: Sarah Asseng, Katie Audino, Tatiana Bodnar, Blaine Donnelly, Courtney Johnson, Emily Lemanski, Danielle Maines, Erin Shananhan, Katherine Thomas and Zoe Smith.

GOLD MEDALS FOR U12 AND U14 - OLYMPIC WEEKEND!!!!!

February 20 and 21 proved to be an Olympic Gold weekend for The Gaels U12 and U14 teams. On Saturday, The Gaels U14 took home the Gold medal in the Indoor Maryland Club Championships in Rockville in the A pool. The team finished 4-1 on the day defeating Maryland United 2 times in a row to win Gold. On Sunday, The Gaels U12 traveled to Milton, Delaware to bring home the Gold on their run of games with a 4-0-1 record, scoring 24 goals only allowing 2 all day. Any Olympic Gold weekend for The Gaels!!

Congratulations to The Gaels teams on their performances at Disney's Field Hockey Showcase. The U14 team made it to the top 8 and finished 7th out of 24!! The final record was 4-2. The most exciting "game" being the rain out game that turned to just penalty strokes where after the first set of strokes ended in a tie - Erin Shanahan scored a stroke in sudden victory and Courtney Johnson made a great save on a penalty stroke to win the game!! The 2 losses by The Gaels were to the Gold and Silver place finishers - Exclaibur and Spirit USA. What an excellent showing!!
Congratulations to The Gaels U16 team who finished an overall 10th place in the GOLD Division of U16 - with a 4-2 record - and one of those losses coming 2-1 in a penalty stroke game. The team played some of the highest caliber teams and making it to the Gold pool - all first round 1st and 2nd place teams - was the icing on the cake - top 24 teams moved onto Gold and bottom 24 moved onto Silver!! Kendall Garden is featured on USA Field Hockey's website for Thursday photos for the Gaels!!! Congrats.
Congratulations to The Gaels U19 team who finshed 2-4 - but started and ended the tournament with victories in front of dozens of college coaches - and the goalies Stephanie Harryman and Sophia Openshaw showcased their talents with a lot of action. All of the games were close for The Gaels - and with a total of 6 full games in 3 days - the team really played well. Congrats!!

Hooked On Hockey Schedule
The December 12, 2009 Hooked on Hockey Schedule is attached. Click on the hyperlink "Hooked on Hockey Schedule." I am pleased to announce the Schedule for the 2009 Hooked on Hockey Tournament at Champions Field House - Rockville, MD. We will play - December 12, 2009, snow or shine!! Note that U14's are playing 5 - 20 minute games vs. 4 - 25 minute games. As a reminder, parking is an issue at the field house - and don't park at the other arena across the street - they tow - so drive together - park and walk - drop off and park - but be prepared for a challenge in the parking department. You may park at Federal Express building and coming up the entry road - but not down the entry road!! We will have a concession stand set up with food (really will help instead of actually leaving facility and loosing your parking spot), tournament t-shirts for sale - $10.00 and USA Field Hockey calendars for $15.00. Please check back for updates Looking forward to a great day of indoor field hockey!!
DEPOSITS FOR GAELS INDOOR TEAMS
You can now make your deposits for the indoor season online. Please use the online forms by clicking on the link at the upper right hand side of the "Welcome Page." There are three different forms.
1. Travel & Rec League Form - This form is for players that are on a travel and a rec team. The charge is $350.00 for the first player and $100.00 for each additional sibling. If you are signing up more than two players, just give Joan or George Asseng a check rather than paying online. The maximum the form will charge is $350 per family. There is a drop down menu for the appropriate team as well as a space for an email address your coach can use to make contact with a parent.
2. Travel League Only - This form is for Arundel High Players that are not participating in the Gaels rec league team. The charge here is $250.00 for the first player and $100.00 per additional sibling. There is a drop down menu for the appropriate team and we are asking you for an email address the coach can use to make contact with a parent.
3. Rec League Only - This form is for players in the upcoming rec league. There is a $100.00 charge per player for this.
We would like to get the iniital deposit by November 20, 2009 if at all possible.

The indoor try out registration on line has closed - please come to try outs, in person, with the $25.00 fee - cash or check - and you may register at the Sportsplex before our second tryout date, November 4, 2009!! GAELS GOING TO DISNEY FIELD HOCKEY SHOWCASE - FEB. 2010!!!!
The Gaels Field Hockey Club has earned spots for Disney's Field Hockey Showcase, February, 2010 for its U14, U16 and U19 teams. WE NEED YOU!! Please keep an eye out to the website for tryout information. Try outs will be scheduled in September, 2009 for teams to play in February, 2010 at Disney. We have expanded our teams to include U16 and U19 - and we have secured some of the area's top high school coaches to lead our older teams. WE WANT YOU!! Feel free to express your interest as follows: You may sign up online. Just click on "online forms" and complete some basic information. 2009 Richmond Cougar 7 v 7 U14 Champions!!!
Congratulations to The Gaels 2009 Richmond Cougar 7 v 7 U14 Champs!! The Gaels finished pool play tied with Saints Field Hockey Club with a record of 3-0-1 each. The tie breaker took it to head to head competition - and The Gaels and The Saints tied each other 1-1. The next tie breaker came by goals allowed - both teams had stellar defense during pool play - only allowing 2 goals each. The third tie breaker was goal differential - taking the number of goals scored subtracting the number of goals allowed - and The Gaels emerged victorious in that tie breaker by a score of 11-4 as The Gaels scored 13 goals in pool play and only allowed 2 and The Saints scored 6 and allowed 2!! Congratulations to the entire team: Courtney Johnson, Morgan Downey, Kelly Gielner, Erin Shanahan, Kathleen Sigwart, Alisha Locklear, Megan Pazdersky, Zoe Smith, Allison Grimm, Katie Audino, Tot Bodnar, Sarah Asseng, Blaine Donnelly and Emily Bird. The Gaels played the A pool winner - Typhoon Elite Canes from Fredericksburg, VA and Allison Grimm scored the game winning goal with under 6 minutes remaining and The Gaels came out on top by a score of 3-2!! Congratulations to the girls and the Club!!
VWU MARLIN OUTDOOR U14 CHAMPS!!
Congratulations to the U14 Gaels Select team that participated in Virginia Weslyan University's Marlin Outdoor Tournament at the Field Hockey Olympic Training Center in Viriginia Beach, VA on March 21, 2009. The U14 team finished the day 5-0 and outscored their opponnents 18-2. Although we are not playing on Sunday in the finals, our 2-2 record does not reflect the passion and enthusiasm our girls played with this weekend, We could not be more proud of our Gaels! Our Girls are OUR CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!
RESULTS FOR GAELS INDOOR TEAMS
Congratulations to the Gaels U12 team who finished in 1st place in the Delaware Shore Invitational on 2/1/2009. The team went undefeated with a record of 4-0-1 and scored 16 goals and allowed 0.
Saturday, January 31, the Gaels U12 and U14 both played at Washington College in the U14 division. The U12 team finished 2-1-1 and defeated the club's rival SPark U14 by a score of 2-1. The U14 team finished the day at 3-1 and also defeated the second SPark U14 team in attendance at the tournament by a score of 2-0.

U12 and U14 - Undefeated at Washington College!!!
Congratulations to the U12 and U14 Gaels who went undefeated on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Washington College Tournament. Both teams finished the day with a 4-0 record to win their respective division (U12) or pool (U14). Job well done ladies!!
