Program Information and Purpose

Haslett Youth Football is a private club available through Haslett Community Education.

Haslett Youth Football participates in the Mid-Michigan Pony Football League (MMPFL). We are one of 13 communities that are members of the MMPFL. The other participating communities are Haslett, Mason, Charlotte, Portland, Hastings, Laingsburg, Pewamo-Westphalia, Lakewood, Ionia, Eaton and Rapids, Olivet, Jackson Northwest, and Fulton.   New teams joining the MMPFL this year include Grand Ledge, Okemos, Holt, DeWitt, East Lansing, St. Johns.

The purpose of our program:

1. To instruct/coach and promote the game of football to our young athletes in the Haslett Community.

2. To help participants build healthy bodies, strong minds, self-esteem, good character and learn life lessons that the game of youth football provides.

3. To help participants develop skills and proficiencies in football regardless of ability.

4. To teach participants the concepts of team work, good sportsmanship, pride, loyalty, honesty and courage.

5. Establish an understanding of the commitment necessary by parents and participants in order to enhance their success on and off the field.

6. To provide general support and a shared vision of the Haslett High School Football program.

General Information for Parents

Players must attend Haslett Public Schools (or be homeschooled and reside in the district).

Required to Participate: Prior to participating in 1st practice, all players must provide proof of physical examination dated on or after April 12, 2019, and copy of original birth certificate.

Age Divisions: Players are divided by grade (6th, 7th, 8th).

Required Equipment: It is recommended that new players get outfitted with their equipment at Johnny Mac's in Lansing (4255 Five Oaks Dr, Lansing, near Jolly/Dunckel). Johnny Mac's knows what equipment we require.

  • Certified white helmet (preferably with gray face mask),
  • all pads. Shoulder pads, thigh, knee and tailbone pads. It is recommended to purchase the "girdle" hex pad shorts (thigh, knee, tailbone pads built into a washable pair of shorts ). The other option is to buy practice pants that have the pads already sewn in them and just wear your game pants over those. Either option works.
  • colored mouth guard (no clear or white),
  • practice pants
  • practice jersey
  • athletic soft rubber cleats for 6th and 7th grades,
  • 1/2-inch or less screw-in cleats for 8th grade (or soft rubber cleats)

Practice Information: Practices begin August 12th. Players will be contacted 1-2 weeks before practice. The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams will practice at the high school (behind the tennis courts).

Game Information: Games are held on Saturdays. 6th graders will play 6 games, 7th and 8th graders will play 8 games. 7th and 8th grade games begin on August 24th.  6th grade teams start on Sept. 7th (after Labor Day).
