Hornets survive Hockenbury’s big night: Henryville overcame a second-half scoring spree by South Central’s Chip Hockenbury as it scored a 61-52 win over the Rebels at Furnish Gymnasium.
Three players reached double figures for the Hornets, who snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory. Steven Mayfield led Henryville with 16 and senior Kyle Robertson nailed three 3-pointers to finish with 15 points. D.J. Carlson had 12 in the win for Henryville (9-7, 2-2 Southern Athletic Conference).
The win came despite Hockenbury and a 3-point shooting barrage by the visitors. Hockenbury had 25 of his points after halftime and the Rebels as a team hit nine shots from behind the arc in the loss.
“They went crazy in the second half, but we were steady,” said Hornet coach Perry Hunter. “We were really effective at the free-throw line late in the game, and we maintained our lead throughout their rallies.”
Henryville will travel to Crothersville next Friday.
