On behalf of the Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay Relay for Life Volunteer Committee, I want to thank you for volunteering yet again at our event!  The hard work and dedication you demonstrated while volunteering at the Relay for Life are truly appreciated.   As you know, the funds raised for the American Cancer Society will lead us closer to a cure while providing support and education to the community, and it could not be done without the efforts of volunteers.   It's especially rewarding when volunteers help out year after year as my goal is to provide you with a rewarding experience while accomplishing the tasks that need to get done to make the event a success.

 Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Randi Trazenfeld

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY, PINECREST RELAY FOR LIFE

This years Relay began MARCH 16TH AT GREER PARK.

Once again, our Aces Players and Parents volunteered their time and support.

The journey to end cancer starts with a single step. The American Cancer Society invites us to take that step with them by joining their global Relay For Life movement. When you walk to end cancer at a Relay event, it's your opportunity to not only honor cancer survivors and remember loved ones lost, but also to raise awareness about what we can do to stay well from cancer and raise money to help fuel the world's largest walk to end cancer.

For the past 3 years our Howard Palmetto Aces have strongly supported this volunteer effort to help the success of this event.

Anyone who attended and volunteered, both Aces Players and parents, all felt a profound sense of accomplishment and empathy.

Angel King has been gracious enough to take the lead role to coordinate our volunteer efforts.

HP Aces 12U Players Volunteer at Relay for Life Event at Pinecrest Park

April 13, 2011
Our Howard Palmetto Aces Players show their support for finding cures for Cancer.

Saturday night, April 9th, players from our HP Aces 12U Team volunteered at The Relay For Life (organized by the American Cancer Society) Event at Pinecrest Park. This was a fund raising event, sponsored by the American Cancer Society.

Our players helped out serving and cleaning up in the Survivors Tent, where a free dinner was provided to Cancer Survivors.

One of the highlights of the event, was providing an opportunity for visitors to the event to purchase candles, that are placed in a bag. Each bag is then labeled showing the name of a person to honor, those that are cancer survivors, in treatment or passed on having been stricken with cancer. At nightfall, the candles are lit, all activities come to a halt, a touching rendition of Amazing Grace is sung, and everyone walks a lap around the park behind a procession of survivors led by a band that includes bag pipes.

Our players helped to place the bags and light the candles.
Besides helping, they experienced the emotion of the event first hand as they locked arms as friends. Volunteer players featured are: Trevor Vela, Christopher Gonzalez, Dylan Samole, and Alexander Acevedo.

Our HP Aces 12U Team has been very succesful raising money for their own cause, which are their expenses for the Teams trip to Cooperstown in June.
Here was a chance for our Aces players to give back to the community while working together and building camaraderie among each other.

This is an opportunity for our HP Aces Players to show that what we are developing for our program, which should go beyond balls and strikes.

Fundraising for our program, and volunteering and giving back to our community and for those less fortunate, will be a very imporatant part of the Howard Palmetto Aces Program going forward.

Commissioner, Howard Palmetto Aces

Most Frequently Asked Questions

The Howard Palmetto Aces are looking for the most competitive players at Howard Palmetto Baseball Softball Association that want to play Travel/Tournament Baseball. These players are chosen through a competitive try out process. They must display and maintain a high baseball skill level, positive attitude and committement towards their HP Aces Team and their Howard Palmetto Baseball Team. Go to the HP Aces Web Site for try out dates and more information.

These "Rules & Proceedures are being revised for 2013. You can always contact Steve Schwartz, Commissioner at: AquaSteve@aol.com

Do the Howard Palmetto Aces play games that conflict with the regular Howard Palmetto Baseball Season? No. It is in the Rules and Procedures that the HP Aces do not play any games or practices in conflict with the regular Howard Palmetto Baseball Season. The Aces will have practices during the regular HPVSA Season.

Are the Howard Palmetto Aces, part of the Howard Palmetto Baseball Softball Association? Yes. The Howard Palmetto Aces are a separate Division within HPBSA. Only players of HPBSA are eligible to play for the HP Aces. The Rules and Procedures for the HP Aces are separate from the Rules of Howard Palmetto Baseball.

What age team should we try out for? The Howard Palmetto Aces, along with just about any Tournament Team, goes by an age eligibility date starting at May 1st. The easiest way to determine the age eligibility of a player is to input the birth date by going to USSSA's age calculator at: http://www.usssa.com/sports/AgeCalculator.asp?SportID=11
A player that wants to try out and be considered for an older team, should notify the Howard Palmetto Aces Commissioner. The older the players are, the less likely the players will be considered to play up.

When do the Howard Palmetto Aces play? The HP Aces will play in non conflicting Tournaments during the regular HPBSA Season. The Aces will play Tournaments and other Travel Leagues during the summer and Fall. The actual scheduling is an individual team decision based on the availability of the players, Manager and Coaches. Interested players should attend the try outs and learn more about the individual HP Aces Team objective.

Since the inception of the Howard Palmetto Aces, we have played in many tournaments in Florida. We send our 12U Team to Cooperstown every year. We have sent teams to the Ripken Tournaments in Myrtle Beach, and Tournaments at Disney in Orlando. We had HP Aces Teams at: 7U, 8U Coach Pitch, 8U Kid Pitch, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U & 16U Alumni Team. Generally our Aces teams play the Summer in local Travel Team Leagues. Generally there are 12-15 players on a team. Some teams may consider additional players as alternates.

Howard Palmetto Aces Program

Travel Baseball Division of “Howard Palmetto Baseball Softball Association”

Howard Palmetto ACES “POLICY AND PROCEDURES

The Howard Palmetto Aces (Aces) is a Division of the Howard Palmetto Baseball Softball Association (HPBSA) created in 2008 to provide competitive baseball opportunities for selected HPBSA baseball players. HPBSA is a recreational baseball and softball league, comprised of teams that are drafted from a player pool. Established in 1962, HPBSA is an independent, community based, not for profit baseball and softball organization. HPBSA’s main recreational baseball season, Winter/Spring (HPBSA Spring Season), extends from January through the post-season tournaments in May. Annually, over 1,000 players register for the HPBSA Season from the south Miami-Dade area. In addition, HPBSA has a rapidly growing recreational Fall Baseball and Fall Softball League, from September through Mid November (HPBSA Fall Season).

The Aces program was developed to provide the opportunity for HPBSA’s most competitive players to participate in a higher level of competition in addition to the regular HPBSA baseball seasons. The Aces gives these players the chance to practice and play in outside travel baseball tournaments and leagues. The Aces are committed to fielding the best possible teams, based on the pool of players that were registered to play in the HPBSA Spring Season or HPBSA Fall Season that year. Therefore, selected players will play HPBSA recreational baseball with their friends and also have the opportunity to be part of a more competitive Aces team, which may play at times even outside the HPBSA season or HPBSA fall season. This gives our selected Aces players an advantage over other profit-seeking, travel baseball teams. Most require players to commit all year, to what can be expensive travel teams, with no break to play non-conflicting recreational baseball with a group of friends. We want to keep the “fun in baseball” while giving the most competitive players the opportunities for advanced play.

In general, the Aces program will not conflict with the HPBSA teams and scheduling for the HPBSA Season.

The administration of the Aces is the responsibility of the Commissioner of the Howard Palmetto Aces. The Commissioner is appointed by the Executive Committee of HPBSA. The Aces Commissioner will, at his discretion, appoint volunteer team managers as necessary.
