Time flies so fast! It’s hard to believe another swim season is already on the horizon. Plans are well underway for the 2014 swim season. Sean Peters and Katie Jeffrey, along with a crew of other coaches, will be on the pool deck for another exciting summer. As in past years, returning swimmers can register before the general registration and secure their spot on the team. Returning swimmers must register by March 3, 2014. After that date, new swimmers will be eligible to register during general registration. Team membership is limited to the first 180 swimmers, so be sure to sign up and reserve your spot!!!
Registration fees are as follows:
$210 per swimmer for HW residents + $25.00 Team Fee = $235.00
$255 per non-resident swimmer ($210 registration fee + $5 non-resident swimmer fee+ $40 non-resident family fee) + $25.00 Team Fee = $280.00
$215.00 per each additional non-resident swimmer + $25.00 Team Fee = $240.00
The HWAC Board has worked hard to maintain a high-quality, fun and engaging swim team at the lowest possible cost to our families. In recent years, HWAC was able to use surplus funds to underwrite a number of team expenses, but those funds have now been expended. In order to cover costs without constantly asking families to pay for small items, a modest "Team Fee" of $25 per swimmer has been instituted and must be paid along with your registration fee. This covers the concession fee, and the team t-shirt and swim cap for each swimmer. It will also give each swimmer the option of a free ad in the program for A or B Finals. If you have questions or concerns regarding this fee, please contact the HWAC Treasurer, Theresa Fraley, at email@example.com or (248)-390-6235.
There are three forms that must be completed and turned in for registration. The first is the registration form for returning swimmers. Please make sure to complete all fields on the form. The second form is the A and B Finals intention letter. If you do not turn in the A and B intention forms we will assume that your child is not available to swim in either meet. The third form is the Parent/Athlete Acknowledgement Form. The Michigan Department of Community Health requires all parents and participants in any organized athletic program to read and sign a document relative to concussions. This document will remain on file as long as a swimmer participates on the swim team. A new form will not be required each year. All three forms must be completed in order to be registered. Please fill out the forms and drop them off or mail them to the Rec Center with your payment. Each swimmer in your family must complete a separate set of forms.
If you are a returning swim family and you did NOT receive a Returning Swimmers Registration email with all of the forms attached, please contact Catherine L. Einhaus, our HWAC Parent Board President - contact information below.
General registration for resident new swimmers will begin March 4, 2014 at 6PM. If you have any new swimmers in your family, please register them at this time. If necessary, a lottery for available spaces will be held. Non-resident Berkley School District registration will begin March 10, 2014 at 6PM. If necessary, a lottery for available spaces will be held. Please note that under no circumstance will any non-registered swimmer be allowed to practice with the team.
Detailed information on the season will follow as soon as it is available. For your information, practice for returning swimmers will begin in early May at the Berkley High School. Aside from our coaching staff, HWAC is a completely volunteer-run organization that relies on the participation of each family to provide the best possible experience for the swimmers. Being part of the team means that each family is expected to volunteer at least twice during the course of the season. There are many volunteer opportunities at home and away meets, as well as other team related activities. Please remember that the team cannot run without the help of our families. If we each volunteer at least twice, our meets and events will run smoothly. More information regarding volunteer opportunities will be forthcoming.
The annual Parent’s Meeting will be held at the Huntington Woods Recreations Center on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 7:00PM. Please plan on attending.
If you have any questions about the team, please feel free to contact the Rec Center or speak with me directly.
