Proposed New CIF Baseball Schedule
At the last CIF Baseball Advisory Committe a coach wrote out a proposal to change the format for the baseball playoffs.
His recommendations are:
Week 1-There will be 8, 4 team, double elimination tournaments in the first round.
-The top 8 seeds in the final regular season polls will be the host sites for each tournament.
-Only the top seed at each site will be guaranteed a first game home team disignation. All other games home team will be determined by coin toss.
-The 1st and 2nd rounds will run from Thursday to Saturday of that week, with an if necessary game played on the following Tuesday.
-There are 7 games maximum per tournament.
-Admission will be charged at each site.
Week 2-Week 2 will consist of 2, 4 team double elimination tournaments.
-The highest remaining seeds from final regular season polls will be the host sites.
-All games home team will be determined by a coin toss.
-Possible game if necessary would be played on the following Tuesday.
Week 3-CIF Championship - ONE GAME
-Home team is determined by coin toss
-Site is predetermined.
OTHER IMPORTANT FACTORS:
-If a team loses it's first game in each tournament and proceeds to go on and win the CIF Championship, they can play a maximum of 11 games.
-If a team goes undefeated throughout the entire three weeks they can play a minimum of 7 games.
-All games combined for the 3 weeks of playoffs in one division is 71 games.
-If there are no seeded teams that advance past the first round then the host sites for round 2 will be determined by the CIF Office.
OTHER SUGGESTIONS & CONCERNS-This would probably not work for the smaller schools do to the lack of pitching.
-Transportation Cost
-Another option was two have a best of 3 series between 2 teams for the first two rounds.
The idea came about to promote high school baseball more and have it more related to the double elimination style that is done in little league, junior college, and college world series.
Take the poll give us suggestions by using the message board on what ideas you have for a new playoff system.
