2015 - 2016 Year in Review
Congratulations to the 2016 Varsity Men's Golf team for being the Metro League Champions for the 4th year in a row.
The 2016 players were: Seniors Kenji Lo and Marsalis Smith, Juniors Ryan Ikami and Jonathan Tanihana, and Sophomores Koji Lo and Chris Nakao.
At the Metro League Championship held at The Reserve at Spanos Park the team shot a 383 and Jonathan was our low score shooting a -1 under 71. This was the 4th Metro League Championship in a row.
The team finished 2nd at the Division 2 playoffs, which this year was held at Mare Island, shooting a team score of 434. Kenji was our low score shooting 77.
With that 2nd place finish, the team earned a spot for the first time ever in the Masters Tournament also held at The Reserve at Spanos Park. This field was the top schools who qualified from the D1 North, D1 South, D2, D3, D4, D5, and D6 playoffs in the entire Sac-Joaquin Section. The Sac-Joaquin Section stretches from Vallejo to Yuba City to Placerville to Los Banos. The team placed 9th in a field of 15 teams shooting a team score of 417. Kenji was our low score shooting 77.
Jonathan Tanihana finished the season as the MVP of the Metro League.
Kenji Lo, Chris Nakao and Marsalis Smith were also named to the All-Metro League 1st team.
This year was the first year, in many, that tryouts were held for the varsity team. There is no JV level golf in the Metro League but we were able to to field an informal developmental team of 6 players that played practice matches aganst other JV level teams. The players were, Harrison Arakawa, Kendal Bartlett, Diego Gonzalez, Trevor Hull, Jovian Lin, and Drew Tanaka.
