Welcome to the home of the
Welcome to the KWWRHL web site! The goal of this site is twofold: to keep all of our members informed about league events while providing necessary information to those that are interested in learning more about our league.
Please feel free to explore our site and send us any questions or comments that you may have concerning this site or the league itself.
First night of league games is Saturday, September 19, 2015
Due to several scheduling conflicts with the City of Kitchener, and in order to keep the same number of games as in previous seasons, we had no choice but to set our start date this year as Saturday, September 19.
Unfortunately, team lists will not be announced until the morning of September 17th. We understand that this gives everyone short notice regarding their first game. Be aware that 8 out of 14 teams will be playing on the 19th, so chances are somewhat good that you will have a game that night. If your team does not play on the 17th, your first game will most likely be on Monday, September 21.
League Sponsors Needed!
Our league could not provide the great hockey experience for women in our area without funding help from our sponsors!
Each sponsor gets their company name on one team's jerseys, and the team is actually called by that sponsor's name to increase recognition. We also provide a tax receipt and advertise and link to our sponsors on our website, as you can see to the left of the screen here.
The cost to sponsor a team is $500 per season, and it is a great way to promote women's hockey as well as your company's services. If you are interested in sponsoring, please contact Chrissy Degen, the league Vice President, through the contact form in the links to the left.
Hockey Helps the Homeless Seeking Women's Teams
The Hockey Helps the Homeless tournament is very much hoping to have a women's division this year for the tournament (requiring a minimum of four women's teams). The tournament is an all-day event and will be held on Friday, October 30 at RIM Park. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, uniforms, three games guaranteed, etc. are included in the fee to play, and participants are required to raise donations. 100% of the donation money raised by participants will go to five local organizations in K-W who help the homeless.
Currently, the tournament is looking for team entries. Teams must have a minimum of 11 skaters and one goalie. The tournament will then add two professional level women's players (including Olympians) and two corporate sponsor players to each team.
If you want to enter a team, please feel free to post on our Facebook group page to solicit players. To find out the details of the cost to play, the minimum fundraising requirements, or more information, go to the following link:
If you have other questions, you can contact Bill Pegg directly at the e-mail below. The KWWRHL is not a sponsor of the event, but we are helping to promote it as we support the tournament's goal of having a women's division.
The KWWRHL will not respond to questions about the tournament, so please visit the link for the tournament, or contact Bill directly at his e-mail address.
Policy for Games Without Two Goaltenders
Please note the following procedure, approved by the League executive on Aug. 26, 2015 regarding games where at least one team does not have a goaltender present.
GAME CANCELLATIONS DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER
The KWWRHL very rarely cancels league games due to weather conditions. Any time you feel that weather conditions are not safe for you to travel to the arena for a scheduled game, you should stay home.
In the unlikely event that there is a cancellation, it will be because the City of Waterloo (Mondays) or the City of Kitchener (Saturdays) has closed city facilities including arenas. If either city does decide to close the arenas, we will post this on the home page of our website and our Facebook page by 5:30 pm on Mondays and by 3 pm on Saturdays. You can also call the arenas at any time on a game night to find out if the facility is open.
How much do you know about your CARHA league insurance?
There are a lot of questions about what the medical insurance for league players does and does not cover. For example, did you know that you have no dental injury coverage through our CARHA insurance if you are not wearing a mouthguard?
To learn more, check out the Insurance section of our website (in the menu to the left) and the linked CARHA document there that explains it all!
