Additional Training Requirement for all Volunteers/Coaches
As you may have known, there have been several changes made to laws in the state of Pennsylvania that are designed to protect our children from abuse. These changes include an expansion of who is considered a mandated reporter. This list includes any clergy, employee and volunteers serving in our schools. To reflect the law, a new requirement has been added to the Youth Protection Program by the Diocese of Harrisburg. Our tool to becoming well trained mandated reporters of child abuse is an online course hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. You are required to complete this course before working with your team this season. This training requires your immediate action. Please see below the message from the Diocese of Harrisburg.
“ALL Clergy and Employees must complete Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse Training by December 31, 2015. Although Volunteers have until July 1, 2016 to become compliant with new state regulations, they should complete the Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse Training before commencing service activities for the 2015-16 school year, as they are responsible for increased training information.”
Instructions on how to access the Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse Online Training video via the Diocese of Harrisburg website are available by clicking here.
Once again this training must be completed before you volunteer for the 2015-2016 school year. Thank you and know that our focus is always on the safety of the students.
As always, please work directly with your Parish office with any questions and to prove completion of all Youth Protection requirements.
Further information on clearances will be made available to you at league meetings, through your local athletic representatives and here at the website.
