As the summer temperatures are approaching we would like to remind everyone to play it safe and keep hydrated!  Be sure to have plenty of water available for your players, children, family, and yourself.  It's very easy to quickly deplete your body's electrolytes without even noticing.

A couple of tips to remember:

1. Drink at least eight 8-ounce servings of water each day. The more active you are, the more water you need to replenish lost fluids.

2. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty before you drink water. By the time you feel thirsty, you have probably already lost two or more cups of your total body water composition.

3. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Convenience is a must, so carry a bottle of water with you as you commute to work, run errands or enjoy a day at the beach. While at work or school, keep a bottle of water on your desk, or visit the office water cooler or school water fountain and take a water break.

4. Don’t substitute carbonated beverages with caffeine for water. Caffeine acts as a diuretic beverage and can cause you to lose water through increased urination.

5. Once you start exercising, drink water throughout your workout. Keep a bottle of water with you and take frequent water breaks.

6. Don’t underestimate the amount of fluids lost from perspiration. Following a workout, you need to drink two cups of water for each pound lost.

7. Start and end your day with water. Your body loses water while you sleep, so drink a serving before bed and again when you wake up.

Also remember, Water and Gatorade are always available at the Snack Bar.

Spencer was an 8 year old ball player for Peccole Little League and was managed by his father Bob on the Minor AA Cardinals. He collapsed while walking into the ballpark before his 3rd game of the season. Medics and volunteers tried everything to save the child and were unable to revive him.

If you would like to donate directly to a trust fund that has been set up or purchase a patch please go to the Peccole Little League website for more details at http://www.leaguelineup.com/peccolell

Little League International Announces Bat Rules Changes for 2012 Season
In an effort to provide timely information on bat rules, Little League International today (11-2-11) announced the bat specifications and standards for the 2012 season.

Here are the highlights, followed by the actual text of the 2012 baseball bat rules:

For the Little League Major Baseball Division and below: The moratorium on composite-barreled baseball bats remains in effect. However, some composite-barreled baseball bats that have been proven in laboratory testing to meet the BPF (Bat Performance Factor) standard throughout the life of the bat, through the Accelerated Break-In (ABI) process, have received waivers. That list is here on our webstie under our handouts/Forms Menu tab located to the left of the page!!
Note that in the Little League Majors Baseball Division and below, there is no limit on the “drop” weight of any bat.

Penalty for Use of an Illegal Bat: Previously, the penalty for the use of an illegal bat was simply to remove the bat from the game. In 2012, the penalty has been increased as noted in the rules below.

Rule 6.06 – Baseball - The batter is out for illegal action when –
(d) The batter enters the batter’s box with an illegal bat (see bat specifications Rule 1.10) or is discovered having used an illegal bat.
Note: If the infraction is discovered before the next pitch following the turn at bat of the player who used an illegal bat -

1.The manager of the defense may advise the plate umpire of a decision to decline the penalty and accept the play. Such election shall be made immediately at the end of the play.
2.For the first violation, the offensive team will lose one eligible adult base coach for the duration of the game.
3.For the second violation, the manager of the team will be ejected from the game. Any subsequent violation will result in the newly designated manager being ejected.
