We are already looking ahead to the 2018 MTGSA/Monroe Thunder Travel Softball program:

Town team travel softball is a great opportunity for kids to get advanced game experience while playing ball with their friends and feeling the pride of representing their hometown;

Travel team tryouts for the 2018 season will take place in July/August of this coming fall; teams formed as a result of the tryouts will participate in winter workouts and Spring/Summer/Fall 2018 leagues & tournaments as per the MTGSA travel program rules and guidelines.

  • The MTGSA/Monroe Thunder is planning on having travel teams from the 08u thru 18U age groups next year (based on the player's age on 12/31/18) and will schedule tryouts for all of those groups. Teams are put together by birth year.  How many age groups we end up having teams for and how many teams we have in each age group will be based on the number of players that attend tryouts and the number of manager candidates that volunteer and apply/interview as per our processes.
  • Exact dates for the tryouts and dates for prospective manager applications/interviews, along with much more info, is available on the Monroe Thunder website:  http://www.leaguelineup.com/miscinfo.asp?menuid=30&url=monroethunder&sid=16383571.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!

All injuries at practice or games (that are serious enough for medical attention either at the field or later at a doctor's office or hospital) should be reported to the manager ASAP and that manager in turn needs to send email to the MTGSA Executive Board right away explaining what happened and detailing the injury as best as possible.

Primary Insurance – Family’s own health insurance
Secondary Insurance – Monroe Rec Dept. (they’ll pay $1000 max)
   To use this the Accident Report Form (see links below) needs to be filled out by the manager and brought to the Rec Center ASAP – deliver to Jeanne Crawley/Ass’t Superintendent.  The injured player's parent/guardian should also fill out the form and give a copy to Jeanne.  Good detail should be included in the “What Occurred” section.
Tertiary Insurance – Insurance (Bolinger) the MTGSA provides families through ASA Softball

*In addition, Bolinger provides insurance to our travel teams if injuries occur during a travel game*

Michael Nichols is a Monroe Township High School Senior who suffered a severe spinal cord injury on January 4, 2014 after being checked from behind during a high school varsity hockey game. He was air lifted to Morristown Medical Center where he underwent surgery for a fracture to his C-5 Vertebra.

 He continues to demonstrate a positive attitude and great strength.

Mikey is now a Member on our Recreation Advisory Board. His presence at town events is both uplifting and a source of strength for all us. Mikey never quits and that's what athletes in Monroe do best!

The goal of MikeyStrong23 is to bring awareness to spinal cord injuries and raise funds for the Nichols family and/or Spinal Cord Research.
