McDonough Hockey Has Great Showing in Alpharetta
This past weekend, McDonough sent 6 (2 from each age group) of our rec teams to Alpharetta to play in a tournament. Our kids did very well, especially with it being the first tourney for most. We competed with teams from the host city, Alpharetta, and Norcross (PBC Hockey program) All the games were played at the Cooler Family Skate center and Union Hill Park. In the lower house division the Inferno and Titans played each other for 3rd place. The game had to be decided in overtime with the Titans getting the victory. Thanks also to the Phantom players who helped fill out each of our 2 teams. Collin Curry and Wyatt Smith won the hardest shot competition with 46 mph blasts. Connor Green won the fastest skater award.
The Middle House division was represented by the Sharks and Hitmen with a few of the Bombers filling in. The Hitmen went all the way to the championship game but came up a little short. They led 3 to 0 early on but ran out of gas at the end, losing 7 to 5. The skills winners were Jake Blaney for 2nd in the fastest skater comp. Michael Ippolito, Top Goalie and Garrett Kirkland was 2nd in the shot accuracy.
The Upper House Division was played by the Assault and the Avalon Rush with help from a few of the Rabbits and UH Bombers. Both did very well beating both of the cooler rec teams. They played eachother to a 3 to 2 victory by the Assault which sent them to the Champioship game. The Assault were taken down by the 2K Stars, 7 to 4 in the championship game. The 2K Stars were made up of AAA Bantam ice players coached by Tom Glavine out of the Cooler. A big thanks to Kennedy Parker for moving up from MH to play in net for the Rush, and did an outstanding job. Kalob Andresen took home the fastest skater and hardest shot (73mph) Hunter McWhorter and Andrew Miller finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in the fastest skater. Jake Brown had the 2nd hardest shot and Carson Brown took top goalie Honors.
Everyone had a great time and played lots of Hockey. All teams played 4 games in about a 6 or 7 hour time frame. We will be inviting some teams to our rink in the coming weeks (December 14th is the most likely date) to play some more exhibition type games, so be sure to check with your coach and let them know your availability. All rec players are encouraged and welcome to play in these games. There will usually be a small fee to cover extra expenses for refs.
