The Fusion ended one its most successful ever seasons ranked second in the South Carolina Scholastic Hockey Association with an 10-3 regular season record (11-5 overall). The Fusion finished 4th in the SCSHA playoffs, after defeating the Columbia Wildcats for the third time this season.
Senior captain Eric Patterson finished as the league’s leading scorer, with 48 points (27 goals and 21 assists). Sophomore Ben Altemus finished with 21 points (9 goals, 12 assists), sophomore Bryce VanAmerongen with 19 points (9 goals, 10 assists) and senior Ben Zeigler with 16 points (9 goals, 7 assists). Freshman Joey Brochu, the Fusion’s Rookie of the Year, finished the season with 11 points (6 goals, 5 assists).
Seniors Rob Willm, Nick Rivers and Steven Coccaro and junior assistant captain Jack Taylor led the Fusion on defense. Michael Norris was selected to the league’s All-Star team based on his season statistics, which ranked him 4th in the league among starting goalies. Kelly Morgan finished sixth in the league. Both goalies are seniors.
Christian Fischer and Josh Dembowski were the other senior forwards for the Fusion, which graduates nine players, this year.
Patterson, who will play for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks next season, finished his four-year career with the Fusion with 128 goals and 54 assists. He led the state in points his junior and senior seasons, and was voted All-State 1st team as a junior and senior.
Coach Rick Ramaley finished his 8th season with the Fusion with the state’s top honor, being selected South Carolina Coach of the Year by the high school league.
This was the Fusion’s 10th season.
Patterson was voted the team’s MVP; Zeigler won Most Improved and Brochu was the Unsung Hero.
Fusion players selected to this year’s league’s All-Star team were Patterson, Zeigler, Coccaro and goalie Michael Norris. Taylor was an alternate. Willm, Zeigler, Coccaro and Patterson earned 4-year player awards.

Fusion Coach Rick Ramaley was a finalist for Coach of the Year for the South Carolina Scholastic High School Association. Greenville North Coach Fenton Lang won the award, but Coach Rick was definitely THE coach of the year in our book!
POINT LEADERS:
Eric Patterson led the Fusion with 20 goals and 15 assists during the regular season – which also made him the SCSHA points leader for the year.
Freshman Bryce VanAmerongen was next on the team in points, with 19 – including 14 assists. Senior Tucker Auch and freshman Ben Altemus had 11 points each and Ben Zeigler had 10.
Tucker and Dylan were the only seniors on the team. They’ll be missed next season, but with 12 returning players – and a few promising freshmen prospects – the Fusion is looking forward to the 2011-12 season.

All-State Players:This season, the Fusion nominated Adam Patterson, Eric Patterson, Alex Morgan, and Kelly Morgan for consideration. Alex was chosen as a 1st Team All-State Player
Alex Morgan has been named Mr. Hockey by the South Carolina Scholastic Hockey Association for the 2009-2010 season. This is the highest individual honor bestowed by the SCSHA each season, and it recognizes the ice hockey player who best represents his school and the sport of hockey within the state of South Carolina. The selection is made based upon multiple criteria, including academic performance, service to others, leadership, athletic skill, and promotion of hockey within the community. Alex is Captain of the Lexington-Richland District 5 Fusion hockey team and attends Dutch Fork High School. Alex was also chosen for the All-State 1st Team during his junior and senior seasons, being identified as one of the top 2 defensemen in the state each year.

The Lexington 5 Fusion is a hockey team based out of the city of Columbia in South Carolina. The hockey team consists of the 3 schools in the Lexington 5 Districts that include Irmo, Chapin, and Dutch Fork High Schools.
The 2005-06 season was a most notable season for the Fusion. Finishing 2nd and losing in a close 5-4 game in the State Championship against the high school hockey dynasty, the Wando Warriors. Also ending the regular season leading the league in goals for.
For 2007-2008, the Fusion ended the regular season in 3rd place and lost in the semi-finals to Team Greenville who later became the State Champions. Congratulations Team Greenville, you definitely deserved it.
What a FINISH to the 2008 - 2009 season! The Fusion played in the Championship Game at 11 am on Sunday and gave Greenville is best run for the money yet, and we are the State Runner UP this year!! We will certainly miss our seniors next year, Richie Renner, Rett Jackson, Connor Johnson, Taylor Zumbrunnen, and Leighton Jacobus -- well done and good luck to all the graduating Seniors!
