About the NE Rebels
NORTHEAST REBELS are a privately sponsored competitive tackle football and cheerleading club. 2011 will be the Rebels 43rd season. We are one of 14 local cities that comprise the American Youth Football League in South Florida.
The NORTHEAST REBELS club consists of 7 youth football teams and 7 youth cheerleading squads with ages ranging from 6 – 15 years old.
Practices begin in mid-July and run 4-5 times per week until school starts and then practice times and days are cut back based on age. We play a 10 game schedule starting in mid-August, and conclude the season with playoffs and Super Bowl.
Games are played on Saturdays, beginning with the Peewee team at 9:00 am, with each successive weight division game beginning 5-10 minutes after the completion of the prior game. Generally the evening's final division, the Unlimited team, wraps up their game between 8 and 9PM on Saturday night. The season's schedule is structured so that each city plays 50% of their games at home, and the other 50% away.
Weights and Ages
Football players will be placed on teams based on the player’s age and weight. The player must not weight more then the weight listed for his age, if he does he will be moved to the next team based on his weight. At the first practice we will weight each player and recommend the appropriate team based on his current weight.
Coaching and Player Development
Players are coached and taught under close adult supervision. Some teams will have as many as 6 coaches working with the children at one time. Each coach is hand selected, AYFL certified and given a background check prior to coaching. NORTHEAST holds it’s coaches to high standards and will ensure you children are coached on the fundamentals of the game in a safe environment.
Cheerleading
NORTHEAST has 7 cheerleading squads that cheer for each of the 7 football teams throughout the day. Children are placed on each squad based on age and ability. Cheerleaders are taught gymnastics, tumbling and dance through out the season leading up to a league cheerleading competition. Each cheerleader is provided a uniform for the games and competitions. Each squad is coached by a minimum of 2 coaches and practices at the same times at the football teams do.
