In their third KingCo playoff game, Newport had the win within sights, but a late push by Bothell resulted in Newport's loss by 4. At the end of the first quarter, Newport was ahead by 12. By half-time, however, Bothell pulled ahead by 4 for a score of 26-22. Midway through the third quarter, Junior Isaac Dotson helped bring the score back to a tie 29-29. By the end of the third, Newport pulled ahead by one point with a 3 pointer by Senior Riley Hering. With 6 seconds to go, Newport was only down by 3 but a steal by Bothell brought the score to 53-58. With less than 2 seconds on the clock, Senior Jake Fink scored a 3 to bring the score to the final 56-60. The team was disappointed that they didn't make it to State, but will fight even harder to get there next year. Congratulations Newport Knights on a great season!
Knights Celebrate Huge Win Over Ballard 59-55 in Third Overtime to Secure Advance in KingCo Playoffs
After a disappointing loss to Garfield on February 7 Newport won 59-55 against Ballard and will advance in the Kingco playoffs. The Friday February 10 afternoon game was close throughout, but Newport pulled ahead by three points to start the second half. With a tied score at 38, the teams entered overtime play. Both teams scored 7 points and entered a second overtime. Each fought for another 5 points to end the second period. Newport finally enjoyed victory in the third overtime period, securing the win by 4 points.
The Knights hope for a repeat performance to win their next playoff game, which will occur Tuesday, February 14 at 8:15 p.m. at Juanita HS.
