Dylan Kuhn- Blue Sharks, Pitching coach
Dylan comes to us as a first year pitching coach and will work with Head Coach Pete LaCock this summer.
Played baseball for 17 years. 15 of which were primarily as a pitcher. Including 5 years of experience in college as a pitcher. 2 years at Cypress College primarily as a reliever. 3 years at Trevecca Nazarene University as both a starter and reliever. Great knowledge of the all around game of baseball. Had Tommy John Surgery so he has developed a knowledge of arm care, and warning signs of possible arm problems.

The OCCL will now play at CS Dominguez Hills this summer and is the Waves home field. Just another nice college field added to our league.

Former Major league player" Pete LaCock" will Coach Blue Sharks

LaCock was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the first round (20th pick) of the 1970 amateur draft. His minor league career included leading the Texas League with 84 bases on balls while playing for the San Antonio Missions in 1971 and with 13 triples and 93 bases on balls while playing for the Midland Cubs in 1972.
He would make the major leagues and play for the Cubs (1972–1976) and the Kansas City Royals (1977–1980). In 1981, he played in Japan for the Yokohama Taiyo Whales.
In nine seasons (715 games), he hit 27 home runs with 224 RBI and a batting average of .257. He was a good fielder at both first base and in the outfield, but never became an everyday player. He was often used as a pinch hitter and/or defensive replacement, and sometimes as a designated hitter. He was granted free agency on October 24, 1980, though he never played another major league game.
In 1989, he played for the St. Petersburg Pelicans and Winter Haven Super Sox of the Senior Professional Baseball Association. He also managed the Niagara Stars of the Canadian Baseball League in 2003.
LaCock is the son of Hollywood Squares host Peter Marshall, as well as the nephew of actress Joanne Dru.
Since his retirement from baseball, LaCock has competed in several marathons and triathlons, many of which to raise funds for the Leukemia Society of America.
After serving as the hitting coach for St. Joe Blacksnakes (now defunct) of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball during the 2007 season, he was hired in 2008 as hitting coach for the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association, resigning his position in mid-July. Since then, he's journeyed as a hitting coach with the Tucson Toros of the Golden Baseball League in 2009, the North American League Schaumburg Flyers in 2010, and theKevin Costner owned Lake County Fielders (also of the North American League) in 2011.
Pete is the current head coach of the Cronulla Sharks baseball club, in the NSW major league competition in Sydney, Australia.
Brian Rios named as " Waves" Head Coach

The OCCL is proud to announce the hiring of former AAA player for the Detriot Tigers "Brian Rios" who played 16 years of professional baseball and ended with a .291 career batting average. Rios in 2001 hit 14 Hr's in AAA and was a top prospect in the Tigers organization and now that he has retired he is ready to give back to the youth.

OCCL will play at Mt.San Antonio college this summer
The OCCL will pay at Mt. San Antonio College this summer and two teams will be sharing that field. Team and Easton and The Hurricanes will share the field and will host 28 games between the two teams. The college is located off the 57 fwy and Grand Ave near the 10 fwy only 30 minutes from Costa Mesa area. Stadium seats 800 fans and has a broadcast booth, lights and plenty of parking.

The OCCL will open it's season on Saturday June 1st 2013 with eight teams and possibly 10 teams. Games will be on Tuesdays, Thurdays and Double headers on Saturdays. Note: We are limiting our rosters this year to (25) players per roster.
Blaze sweep Dodgers to win OCCL Championship
July 27, 2012

The Blaze swept the ELA Dodgers and made it (7) wins in a row to win the OCCL Championship series. Game 1 was a 5-1 win with the Blaze shutting out the Dodgers until the 9th inning with 2 outs the Dodgers scored their only run. Starting pitcher "Itai Reuveni" shut down the Dodgers through (6) inn of work and handed the ball over to LHP- Justin Arceneaux in the 7th and the 8th innings to hold off the Dodgers to no runs. Closer "Jon Model" shut down the Dodgers in the 9th for the win.
Game 2
This was a pitching dual between "Gus Garcia" of the Dodgers and "Branden Cates" of the Blaze and both pitchers went deep into the game before being pulled in the 8th inn with a 2-2 tie game. In the bottom of the 8th "Kyle Mellinger" hit a solo HR to put the Blaze ahead for good. Jon Model came in to close the last out and seal the win for the Blaze.

Waves fall to Blaze in (1) game play-off 7-3
July 25, 2012

The Waves ran into "Pitcher of the Year" Joey Capistran on Tuesday and fell to the Blaze 7-3. The Waves left 12 runners on base and just couldn't get the timely hits needed to finish a rally against Capistran. The Blaze Nick Kolley showed why people think he should have won the MVP award by Homering and hitting a RBI double in the game. Top reliever in the league Jon Model came in to hold off the Waves in the 8th and 9th innings to seal the win. Congrats to Coach Harris and his team for making the Championship series against the ELA Dodgers. Game time tonight at 6:30pm at Banning High School in Willmington.
Joey Capistran named "Pitcher of the Year" for 2012

This years "Pitcher of the Year" award goes to the So. Cal Blaze "Joey Capistran" who finished the season with a 4-1 record and led the league in strikeouts and Inn's pitched. Joey's award will be handed out at the All-Star game on Saturday night at Palm Springs Stadium. Congrats to Joey for a great season.
Boomer Baker named 2012 MVP

The OC Waves "Boomer Baker" has been named the 2012 OCCL "Most Valuable player" with 495 points just edging Blake Lepire and Nick Kolley of the Blaze who had 488 each. Boomer was a big part of the Waves making the play-offs this summer and made some great defensive plays as well. Boomer also won the OCCL batting title with a .429 batting average and led the league in stolen bases with (12). Congrats to Boomer on a great season!!

Opening Day games prove that the OCCL has improved
June 3, 2012

The OCCL opened up it's 2nd season with some close games in the North Division and the (2) shutouts thrown with a (1) hitter. Blaze and Knights games were rescheduled. Waves lost their season opener on walks and hit batters and rebounded with a 8-0 win i game two over Team Legit. Legit came out to play in game 1 but ran out of pitching in game 2 to split the series opener.
North Division:
Hitmen and Outlaws battled it out with some low scoring games with a 3-2 win for the Outlaws and a 2-1 win for the Hitmen.
The E. LA Dodgers put a hurt on the Tides with a sweep of the Tides. Game 1 was a 5-0 shutout and game to was a close game until the final inning until the wheels fell off. Dodgers won game two 10-1.

Sign-ups for the 2012 season have started. Players are invited to play in the OCCL and enjoy the So. Cal summer. Why would you not want to play here? Players who leave town to play are crazy. Nothing beats southern California in the summer time. Rosters are filling up so don't wait.

The So Cal Blaze will enter the OCCL for the 2012 summer season to compete in the South Division. Head Coach, Bryan Harris will coach the team and has a professional baseball background to bring to the table. Harris is a Assistant coach at Santa Ana college this year under coach Sneddon and will bring some of the talented players over with him to compete for the league title.
Scott Stidham is OCCL 2011 MVP

The OC Waves "Scott Stidham" has been named the OCCL League MVP after putting up record breaking stats. Stidham batted a league record .486 in 118 plate appearences with a league leading 7 Hr's, 15 doubles, 2 triples and 26 Rbi's. Stidham led the league in Homeruns, Doubles, hits and Rbi's. Stidham heads back to Point Loma University for his senior year and looks to put up monster numbers in 2012.

The OC Waves won the first OCCL Championship in walk off fashion by Danny Lackner. With a lead off hit by Scott Stidham. Lackner hit a 420 foot shot to center field to win the title for the Waves. The North Division Champion Hitmen battled in all three games and took the Waves to the final inning of the season. Closer Marcus Garret picked up the win for the Waves.
Thank you to all of the players who competed in the OCCL this summer and we hope you all return for the 2nd season. Have a great 2012 season!!

The OCCL played a great game Saturday night in Palm Springs vs the Sccbl All stars. The OCCL out hit the Sccbl 8-4. OCCL MVP Scott Stidham drove in the only two runs with a two run HR. OCCL loses 3-2.

The Hitmen clinched the North Division Title today with a win over the CA Knights and secured the best overall record. Hitmen will be home team vs the OC Waves at Northwood HS on Tuesday at 4pm. This should be a great series to end the OCCL season.

OC Waves clinch the South Division Title

The Waves clinched the South Division Title today by beating the Knights on Friday and winning game one of the DH against the Whitecaps. David Birosak picked up the win in relief and Scott Stidham went deep twice to bring his home run total to (6)Hr's In league play which leads the league. Waves will face the Northern division champion on July 26th at Cerritos HS at 4pm in a best of 3 series. If the Hitmen win 1 of 2 games tomorrow the Hitmen will win the North Division.

Cody Lewis OCCL top pitcher in first half

The OC Waves starting pitcher "Cody Lewis" in the first half went 3-0 in 31 innings pitched and a 2.00 ERA. In his last start he went (6) solid innings with (8)k's and gave up only (1) run with a ND. Lewis will start ths Saturday vs the Heat in a important division match up. Cody looks to be headed to the All-Star game on July 30th in Palm Springs to face the SCCBL top players. Cody is headed to Penn State in 2012!

OC Waves outfielder 'Gary Apelian" was drafted in the 27th round in yesterdays MLB draft and will head to Tennesee on Saturday to play for the St. Louis Cardinals organization. Gary was an All-American this year in the Southern California area and we will miss him. Good luck to you Gary!

The Waves "Gary Apelian" (Santa Ana JC) was named to Orange Empires 1st All-Conference.
Gary led the league in Homeruns(8), Hits (57),Slugging percentage(.658) and total bases (98) and finished with a .383 Avg which was 4th overall. Gary also finished 2nd in Runs(39), Doubles(15)and RBI's(39). He is by far the "OEC Player of the Year". Great job Gary and we look forward to watching you play this summer in the OCCL.
Lake Elsinore Heat join OCCL

The Lake Elsinore Heat have entered the OCCL for the 2011 season. Head Coach Chris Jones has coached in the NECBL and in Alaska and looks to put a strong team on the field. The Heat will travel to play our teams on Saturdays and our teams will travel on Sundays to play them. Each team will travel one Sunday only to Lake Elsinore. Welcome Elsinore Heat!!

Waves Sign power hitter Danny Lackner from NY Tech University
February 25, 2011

NYIT's Dan Lackner has been named Great West Conference Player of the Week while Northern Colorado's Joe Sawicki has been honored as Pitcher of the Week for their individual performances last week. The conference office announced Monday.
Lackner captures player of the week honors after batting .538 (7-for-13) with a double, three homeruns and eight RBI to help the Bears to a 4-2 record on the week. The freshman outfielder propelled the Bears to an 8-7 win over Siena in non-conference action on Wednesday as he drove in the winning runs with a two run long ball in the eighth inning. Lackner also led the Bears to a 9-3 win over Houston Baptist in the first game of the double header on Saturday, belting two three run homeruns for six RBI in his two plate appearances in the contest. Lackner hit safely in all five appearances on the week.

Former OC Flyer slugger "Rich Pohle" to coach OC Whitecaps
January 12, 2011

Rich Pohle is one of the leading private baseball trainers and coaches in Orange County, as well as coach of Blue Wave 17U Don Mattingly Teams, which represent the elite players in the age group.
His baseball career started at Buena Park High School where he was first team All Conference and an All-Star for the Coyote's. Pohle played college ball at Cypress College and also for Fullerton College where he was an outfielder. He also played for several years for the Phillies and Seattle Mariner minor league teams, besides the Orange County Flyers in the Golden Baseball League, where he was team MVP and a league All-Star.
He served as the JV coach at Beckman High School in 2010 and is now an assistant coach at Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach where he trains athletes full-time in hitting, fielding, strength, and conditioning.

OC Waves welcomes back players for 2011 season

The OC Waves have signed returning stars from the (30-5) 2010 team for the 2011 season. 2010 MVP "Scott Stidham (Point Loma University) will retuRn to the OC Waves outfield. Stidham led the team in hits, games played and Rbi's. Also returning is power hitting outfielder "Gary Apelian" who finished up the year on a terror. Runner up 2010 OC Waves MVP and 2010 Co-Player of the year in the OEC, 1B "John Spirk" will return in 2011. Spirk batted over .400 for the summer in 2010. Catcher, Clayton Prestridge and Co-Player of the year in the OEC in 2010 will return to the Waves after batting .460 for GWC last year.

Orange Coast College RHP- Mike Smith came off a good summer season with the OC Waves as their closer and looks to have a solid 2011 season. Smith tapped out at 93MPH in some summer games so he should tough to handle in the OEC this year.

The Orange County Waves summer team will compete for the $4000 in prize money this summer in the OCCL. The Waves went 30-5 in 2010 and look to dominate once again. Teams are being added now so this league should have the toughest competition around. A Red-Shirt Freshman team will compete in the league as well.
