Old Allegheny Soccer was founded more than 20 years ago to provide a positive learning experience so that kids can have fun and learn to play soccer. We offer instructional, in-house recreational, and travel team soccer programs for children ages 5 - 19. Our players come from the the Northside and North Hills neighborhoods of Pittsburgh, although anyone can play, regardless of where they live. Many of our players have gone on to play for their High School teams and for their College teams.
City League Playoffs November 16, 2009
The City League season ended last night, with both the U-12 and U-15 teams playing for their respective league championships.
City League U-12 Team
In a close-fought match, the Old Allegheny u-12 team came up short in a 1-0 game for the Championship. Great defense and solid goal tending kept the game close, with the game a scoreless tie well into the second half. Old Allegheny U-12 had some great opportunities, but could not convert in the 1st half. In the second half, a shot by YESAC in a scramble for the ball at about the midway point was the only goal in the game. Great job to the coaches, players and fans.
The U-12 team got to the championship game in a golden goal OT win over undefeated Elliott. The kids played a great game last night to cap off a surprising playoff run. The players on the team made great improvement during the season and made all of us proud for the way they played in the Championship.
City League U-15 Team
The U-15 team lost in overtime to the team they beat in last year's championship match, Elliott #1. Old Allegheny U-15 scored in the first half on a header by Scout Cheeks on a cross from the left corner. The lead held through the 1st half and well into the second half when, with about 2 minutes left, Elliott #1 got a goal from the right 18 yard line. With about 2 minutes left in sudden death overtime, there was a scrum on a ball from the left corner that wound up in the back of the net, ending Old Allegheny's hopes of repeating as City League champions.
All of the kids played well. One interesting note -- in the last five games that Old Allegheny has played Elliott #1, the goal differential is ZERO. In the championship match in November of 2008, Old Allegheny won by a score of 2-1. The teams tied in both regular season games this year, (with scores of 2-2 and 0-0) and Elliott won the championship this year 2-1.
Both the U-12 and U-15 teams played well this year. Thanks to all the fans who turned out last night. They were treated to 2 great games.
A League Champs 2009 October 31, 2009
Fans, coaches and players were treated to a great morning of soccer today.
The first game, between A4 Kasunick Welding (Red) and A2 Breadworks (Gold) was hotly contested. A1 opened an early lead on but A4 came back strong and looked as if they were on their way to victory. A2 mounted a comeback and at the end of the second half, the game was knotted by a score of 6-6. Next came the direct kicks. A4 put two kicks into the net and A2 had no answer, so A4 went on to win 8-6.
In the championship game, A1 Harv's (Blue) battled A3 Parkvale (Green) in a muddy and wet match and came out on top by a score of 6-0. Several excellent shots by A3 were just wide of the net, but they never gave up.
The final playoff results were:
1st Place A1 Harv's (Blue)
2nd Place A4 Parkvale (Green)
3rd Place A4 Kasunick Welding (Red)
4th Place A3 Breadworks (Gold)
All of the players and coaches are to be congratulated on a wonderful and exciting season. The kids and coaches worked hard and almost every player improved during the season. It was great to see that hard work payoff in an exciting playoff series.
B-League Champs 2009 October 31, 2009
The early consolation games were played in the rainy and sloppy conditions at Brighton Heights Field. After the consolation games, the championship game was held.
The regular season first place team B3 Black played B2 Heard Funeral Home (Maroon). B3 had excellent spacing and defended the goal well, but B2 had some early chances on breakaway opportunities. The game was tied 2-2 when a key penalty on B2 led to a couple of quick goals. In the end, B3 came out on top by a final score of 5-2.
It was a great season for B League. All of the kids had fun and worked hard -- and remember -- there is always next year.
Thanks coaches and players for making this a season to remember.

According to The Northside Chronicle.com, Mayor Ravenstahl says that there will be an extra $940,000 put into the 2010 budget for construction and thinks that construction will start sometime in 2010. You can read the rest here.
Please be sure to let the Mayor, City Councilwoman Darlene Harris, or State Representative Don Walko that you would like to see the soccer field built as soon as possible.
