Baseball Dugout Dedication Ceremony - Dugouts dedicated to the memory of Scott “Tiger” Rogers
April 18, 2009
On a beautiful sunny spring day in Pequannock, Saturday April 18th, Ed and Cathie Rogers accept a plaque from Bill McNeir during the dugout dedication ceremonies held at the Pequannock Township High School, in memory of their son Scott Rogers. Mrs. Rogers was presented with a bouquet of flowers by varsity team captains Martin Kelly, Ryan Maloney and Chuck LaPorta. Coach Rogers thanked everyone for coming out and joining him and Cathie in celebrating the wonderful new baseball dugouts. He said, “these dugouts have always been a dream of his and Scotts every since that rainy baseball game back in 1988, when Scott turned to him and said its awful wet out here. Well Scott you and the players won’t be wet anymore. The new dugouts will serve this team and those that play here for many years to come.” His speech was met with a thunderous applause by the many well wishers, family members and friends and former players that attended the ceremony. The dugouts were made through a generous donation from the Rogers family and the PTHS Grand Slam baseball club in combination with the hard work from volunteer parents and friends of the Pequannock High School baseball teams.
Rip City - Song
I was just about to trash a folder in my baseball folder and came across some Lyrics I adapted to am old surf song. I thought I did something in my sleep a few years back and I guess I did. The song is titled "Rip City", and it is sung to the music of Jan and Dean Surf City song or to a similar Beach boys tune. I never heard it put to music maybe some energetic person could do it and email me the version to put on the website for kicks. I dare you give it a shot. You will notice the Lyrics were written in the winter of 2006, not new by any means.
» Rip City
Lyrics by yours in sports - Rich Maloney *2006
(Words sung to surf city by Jan and Dean)
Two hits, two hits for everyone
I bought a pretty cool bat and it’s made of wood hey
(Rip City, here we come)
You know, it's not made of cherry, it's Maple and a goody
(Rip City, here we come)
Well, if you ain't swinging wood then aluminum will do But it still gets me hits where I want em to go
Chorus:
And we're goin' Rip City, 'cause Pequannock’s number one
You know we're goin' Rip City, gonna have some fun
Yeah we're goin' Rip City, 'for two hits and some runs
You know we're goin' Rip City, gonna have some fun, now
two hits for everyone
-----------------------
You know they never roam the streets, because there's always a ballgame goin on'
(Rip City, here we come)
You know, they're always out playing ball' or got a party growin on’
(Rip City, here we come)
Well it's two hits for everyone,' no mater a honey or a fella
And all you gotta do is just wink your eye
(chorus)
And if my wood bat breaks down, I'll use another from a player
(Rip City, here we come)
I'll strap my bag to my back and hitch a ride in my jersry
(Rip City, here we come)
And when I get to Rip City, I'll be Hitting for the cycle
And checkin' out the parties with for the softball girls
(chorus)
