****Important message about PGYA Football****

In recent years, national participation in youth tackle football has declined at a rate of approximately 5% annually. This is attributable to a variety of factors including safety concerns as well as a rise in other options for athletes to participate in during the fall months. We’ve experienced similarly steady declines in our youth football league here in Pleasant Grove. The PGYA board has worked diligently to make our league... both safe and attractive for our young athletes. In spite of the many changes and accommodations that we have made to our football program in recent years, we no longer have a sufficient number of players to support youth tackle football at PGYA.

As an alternative to tackle football, we will be offering a competitive 6 versus 6 Flag Football league in all divisions. The divisions will remain the same as previous years. 1st and 2nd graders will be in a division, 3rd and 4th graders in another, followed by 5th and 6th graders in the oldest division. Our initial plan is to have approximately 10 players to each team.

Please note. This is NOT a skills camp. This will be competitive flag football similar to what is played in collegiate intramural athletics. We are in the process of solidifying the upcoming dates for our annual skills camp as well as the draft date and will communicate those as soon as they are finalized.

This will be a new and great opportunity for PGYA athletics.
1. It will enable more kids to participate in youth football and learn the skills and concepts necessary to play when they reach middle school.
2. It will give more parents the opportunity to coach as we will have more teams than ever due to fewer players on each team.
3. Most importantly, it will give us a new avenue to continue to promote the growth of our players physical, mental, social and spiritual welfare.

As always, thank you for your continued support of PGYA athletics and we look forward to seeing you all in another great football season.
