The Plainfield Lady Vikings recently traveled to Orlando, Florida where six teams competed in American Youth Cheer-Dance-Step National Competition. There were teams from eight regions of the United States including Desert Pacific, Mountain Northwest, Midwest, Southwest, Big East, Atlantic, New England, and Southeast. Each team competes in their particular categories to try and win 1st place National Champions, 2nd place or third place. With some division having as many as eight or more competing the competition is fierce.
The Lady Vikings came away with two 1st Place National Championships in Division 10 Dance and Division 18 Step, One 2nd Place in Division 14 Dance, and three of our teams placed 3rd in Division 8 Dance, Division 10 Step, and Division 18 Cheer. Our teams have worked hard qualifying at our local and regional competitions in order to win the right to compete at nationals. The girls along with coaches, League Board Members, and Parents worked to raise the money to take the teams to Nationals. As we approached our date to leave we were still approx. $3000.00 short to pay the bus company.Mr.. Shabazz from Villani bus company made it possible for us to go by letting us make a payment plan to pay them. Our bus company Villani has a big heart they put our girls before their bottom line.We will be fundraising to fulfill our commitment to pay them.
Our girls range in age from 5 to 18.They are a strong group of committed young ladies that work hard on and off the mat. They work in the community and volunteer to help others, for example they help to clean and paint The Plainfield Rescue Squad. We have some girls that volunteer to feed the homeless. We are much more than just an athletic organization we are living out our motto “Building Today’s Youth to be Tomorrow’s Leaders”.
