Introducing Joe Hamstra- New Athletic Director/Head Football Coach at SCS
Joe Hamstra, head football coach and Dean of Student Life at Chicago Christian High School in Chicago, Illinois, has accepted the position of head football coach and athletic director at Southwest Christian School. Coach Hamstra has been in coaching for twenty years, serving as the head football coach the last seven years. He has also served as an athletic director for five years. He has served at Christian high schools for fourteen years in Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Illinois. While serving at these schools he has also held positions as Interim Principal, Dean of Students, Chapel Coordinator, Summer School Coordinator, Missions Program Director, Co-director of Student Ambassadors, math teacher, strength and conditioning coach, and head wrestling coach.
Coach Hamstra has a Masters degree in Educational Leadership and a Bachelors degree in Math Education. He has also been greatly involved in student leadership programs, peer tutoring, and peer mentoring programs. Coach Hamstra states, I am deeply concerned with, not only excellence on the football field, but also mentoring godly young men who will make a difference for Gods kingdom. He has coached over fifty scholarship players, four of whom played in the National Football League. Southwest Christian School is truly blessed to have Joe Hamstra join our SCS family as the leader for the boys and girls athletics program. He brings many qualities to our school that will help equip young adults to be Christian leaders in the world.
Joe Hamstra is married and has three children; two daughters in high school and a son in middle school. Coach Hamstra plans to begin working at SCS on April 1.
We will be welcoming the Hamstra family with a reception. Details regarding date and time will be forthcoming. We know you will want to pray for the Hamstra family as they make this transition.

The Mission of SCS Athletics is to train and develop student athletes for athletic competition while fostering a spirit of sportsmanship, instilling responsibility and accountability, and exhibiting a Christ-like example on and off the field.
Athletics at Southwest Christian School
SCS takes pride in its athletic teams and programs and encourages student participation, support and total physical effort on the fields of play. While it encourages winning, the school does not place it as the cornerstone of its sports program. SCS students are scholars first and then scholars who know the joy of physical exertion and tough competition.
SCS coaches, players, and parents seek jointly to train and develop themselves to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ, as revealed in his word.
Athletics at SCS includes: Baseball, Basketball, Cheerleading, Cross-Country, Football, Golf, Rodeo, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Track and Field, Volleyball and Wrestling.
