The Scotia-Glenville Babe Ruth League is reaching out to our local community and beyond for help with recovery efforts related to our field and baseball complex as a result of the devastating Mohawk River flooding that occurred after Tropical Storm Irene. Our field and complex is located in Collins Park which is adjacent to the Mohawk River where it separates Scotia and Schenectady. The storm caused the river to flood and reach levels not seen in over 100 years. Several of our players live in Middleburgh and saw extensive damage to their community. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.
While the damage to our complex pales in comparison to what some have seen, the damage to our program could affect many. Our entire baseball field, equipment garage, concession stand and restrooms were under approximately 8-9 feet of water. Damage caused by the water and mud was compounded by strong currents that destroyed bleachers and eroded portions of our infield. While efforts were made to save some of our equipment all of our concession stand was destroyed and with it many years of donations and volunteer efforts to make the concession stand and field what it was.
If your organization can help in any way please contact one of our board members listed below or use the address at the top of this letter. We have included our official league charter, as well as, pictures of the damage to our facility. Our goal is to restore the facility and league to its original status in time to support the 2012 spring baseball season. If you can help in any way, please contact us via one of the emails below.
