    Coaches and Parents
At our 10/13/09 (2nd Tuesday of the month) meeting, SLE board positions were identified for reelection. Attached you will see the nomination form with candidates names for the position they desire. However, this is an open election and perhaps there are people that would like to be more involved with the SLE and would like to be considered for one of the positions. The form does have blank spaces for anyone that might be interested as a write-in. Please e-mail back if you or someone you know would like to be considered for a position. The final vote for these positions will be on 11/10/09 (2nd Tuesday of the month) at 7pm at the Knights of Columbus.

As a note: we are all volunteers and we help each other, we discuss issues and then vote on them. None of us know all the answers or all procedures by heart, we are a team, and a team helps each other.

The goal for the SLE is to make this as enjoyable for our young players and for us as volunteers and parents.
In closing, please consider volunteering at some level, whether it be a board position, coach, concessions or just willing to help when you can.

    Thank you,
    George Herman
    President SLELL

Dear Coaches and Parents of the South Lawrence East Little League

This note is intended for the immediate family of the SLE. We plan on making another media response for all the support we have received.
The current Board of Directors of the SLE would like to thank everyone that volunteered during the SLE Opening Day Ceremony. Your help and support made the 2009 opening day one of the best ones to date. When we arrived early Saturday morning to start our normal setting up, we were pleasantly surprised to see DPW workers tending our fields. Come to find out, these workers actually donated there own personal time because in their words “this was something that the youth deserved”. These workers had put aside their personal and union differences with the City of Lawrence and prepared all four fields for our youth to use.
As you unfortunately know, the SLE for some unknown reason doesn’t have very much support from the City of Lawrence. While our Opening Day was progressing, Rodger Twomey and David Abdoo were seen at our fields. Mr. Twomey spoke to me briefly to say that SLE had his support. These two gentlemen are the ONLY city officials’ that have approached us in our hour of need. They didn’t come down to give any speeches; they just came to offer their personal support. Thank you, Mr Twomey and Mr Abdoo.
On Thursday morning (4/23/09) the SLE was informed that the storage container that was donated by “PODS” had been broken into. The thieves stole equipment that was to be used for our 2009 season. We called the Lawrence Police to report this theft and also contacted the Lawrence Eagle Tribune to also let them know about the unfortunate loss. At this point we decided to shelter as much as possible, this loss from our young players. Opening day was only two days away and the players didn’t need to be worried about if this loss would impact them. These young players come to this field complex to play ball and should not have to be concerned about the behind the scenes operation of the league.
After the Lawrence Eagle Tribune printed the story about our loss, we started receiving calls from many other news media organizations. As a result of the extensive media coverage, the SLE has been receiving numerous calls and emails with pledges of equipment and checks with a large range of dollar amounts in pledges. The pledges will be used to help build a permanent building with bathrooms and concession stand along with storage.

Thank you again for your support,
    George Herman

    Our Mission

Little League is a program of service to youth. It is geared to provide an outlet of healthful activity and training under good leadership in the atmosphere of wholesome community participation. The movement is dedicated to helping children become good and decent citizens. It inspires them with a goal and enriches their lives towards the day when they must take their places in the world. It establishes the values of teamwork, sportsmanship and fairplay.

Our Little League program is fiscally responsible and works hard to provide a quality program to the residents of South Lawrence. In addition, we pick managers and coaches who adhere to a strict combination of rules and ethics, including a background check and sex offender check.
