This years BayHawk squad, playing in the super-competitive "A" division, proved to a formidable group of talented players. Winning back-to-back titles is a rarity these days and to step up a division and repeat is a tremendous accomplishment.

The team continues to play at the highest level of competition while displaying all of the virtues we expect in a young athlete.
The 5th Grade Lady BayHawks (bottom picture), coached by Maria Ehlinger and her father, Paul, took home the award in just their first year of playing together. The girls had a great season and were shining examples of what a Saint Dominic C.Y.O. basketball player/team should be. Well done ladies!
Saint Dominic 8th Grade Girls Soccer capture N.S.C.Y.O. Championship
A long and hard fought season for the Saint Dominic Catholic Youth Organization 7th and 8th grade girls’ soccer team finally culminated Sunday night, November 17th in victorious fashion. The Lady BayHawks defeated previously unbeaten Sacred Heart by the score of 2-1 to win the 2013 Nassau Suffolk C.Y.O. championship.
The girls of Saint Dominic jumped out to an early lead when Juliana Cavallone made an astounding shot from the far left extreme of the box that soared over the goalkeeper's head and into the net. After a period of defensive prevalence where it seemed that every offensive attack was countered with an even better defensive stand, Saint Dominic's broke through again when Sacred Heart was called for a penalty. Cavallone again took the shot and notched into the top of the net. Sacred Heart did not allow themselves to be down by two goals for long, however, as they quickly drove down the field and scored in the final seconds of the first half.
The second half was a tremendous battle by both teams, as they fought to move the ball endlessly. The game clock could not move fast enough for the fans and players alike. The ball seemed to linger around the St. Dominic's goal for the most part, but all around great defensive play and an extraordinary performance from goalkeeper Emily Villar (after Sidney Cunningham’s fabulous 1st half stint in goal) were able to stop every one of Sacred Heart's relentless attacks. The final whistle was blown and the Lady BayHawks were crowned champions. This was the second N.S.C.Y.O. Championship for the 7th Grade girls, who captured the title in 2011.
This exceptional, heart-stopping, championship game was the perfect end to a great season of hard work and dedication. The team was led by the exceptional coaching staff of Tom Regan, Jack Lambertson, and Frank Monteleone. Always displaying sportsmanship and a fierce competitiveness, the Lady BayHawks were a perfect example of grace and athleticism. The team also had the tremendous support of friends and family who traveled to every game to cheer them on. A great season ended in the best possible way for St. Dominic N.S.C.Y.O. 7th and 8th grade girls’ soccer team.

Saint Dominic 7th Grade Boys are N.S.C.Y.O. 2012/2013 Basketball Champs
On Saturday, March 23rd, the Saint Dominic C.Y.O. captured 2 victories of historic proportions. In a season that saw 4 C.Y.O. BayHawk boys basketball teams make the playoffs (as well as 2 girls teams), capping off the successful 2012/2013 campaign for 2 of those boys teams by taking home the Championship Trophy was the perfect way to end the season. For the first time in recent history, Saint Dominic C.Y.O. had two teams competing for Gold on the same day.
In a heart-pounding battle, St. Dominic 7th Grade CYO Team came away with the victory versus a very talented St Hyacinth team by a score of 48-47. Behind strong guard play, St. Hyacinth jumped out to an early lead that grew to 10 points through the 2nd Quarter. Led by Strong play from Luke Puccio and a couple of late baskets, St. Dominic cut the lead to 6 points going into halftime trailing 24-18.
Exploding out of halftime, Robby Rossiter scored six straight points in the first minute of the 3rd quarter to tie the score at 24. Rossiter ended the game with 23 points and was named the game’s outstanding player. Strong defense by Alex Breuer and Jack Phelan kept the game close through the rest of the 3rd Quarter.
The 4th quarter was an epic battle by both teams. Fighting through injury and illness Michael Leahy and Justin Renner fought hard under the basket to the brink of exhaustion. Joe Walsh made a couple of late steals and combined with Elia DeBlasio to hit critical free throws in the final minutes. A late basket by Anthony Reilly, who added 15 points, sealed the one point victory and the Nassau Suffolk Catholic Youth Organization championship for St. Dominic.
Recovering from pneumonia, the team was inspired by the attendance of their teammate, Nicholas “Superman” Viscovich. Nick was able to attend the game and cheer the team to victory. With Coaches Robert Rossiter and Michael Leahy guiding this talented team, Sharing the victory together was a fitting end to a tremendous season for the BayHawks!
Saint Dominic 5th Grade Boys BBall capture 2012/2013 Championship !
Next up was the Championship game that saw the 5th Grade Saint Dominic boys battling against Saint Pius. After see-sawing back and forth through the first 3 quarters, the BayHawks were able to put some breathing room between the two teams with some inspired play by their forwards and excellent rebounding that proved to be the difference down the stretch. With guards Jack Stern, Keith Curran, Brandon and Christian Colletta and Joe Ricci directing the offense, the backcourt was in steady hands. Forwards Jack Rispoli, Teddy Mangiarotti, Aidan Dinenza, Ben Nicoletto and Connor Sweeney did most of their damage on the boards and combined with a deadly shooting touch, they opened up the court. The final score was 33-26 in favor of the victorious Saint Dominic Champions !
Capping off a 11-1 regular season, the Saint Dominic squad, coached by Mike Ricci and Phil Colletta, was the favorite going into the playoffs and lived up to expectations by marching through the tournament and toppling some of the best teams in N.S.C.Y.O. Congratulations to the players, coaches, and outstanding parents and supporters.
