Instructional Coordinator Needed!

The SYO is looking for an Instructional League Coordinator for the 2017 Season.

The Instructional League is often a player, parent, and coach's first experience in organized baseball (and the SYO). We want to ensure that all players have a good experience and some guidance along the way.

We are looking for someone to be at fields each night the Instructional League plays and assist and help the players and coaches have a good season.  The Instructional League is tentatively scheduled for Mondays and Thursdays.  There is a stipend for the position and we (the SYO) will provide you with some direction.

Interested individuals, please contact Don Dembroski via

2017 SYO Updates - Softball and Cal Ripken Leagues

We would like to update everyone on a couple new developments for the 2017 season.

  1. SYO and the Superior Rampage will be collaborating at the 10U & 12U levels to form a combined House League.  SYO and Rampage participants will be mixed evenly and play in a once a week Superior League.  Coaches from both groups will work together and give all our girls a chance to play one additional night a week - together!  Logistics still being worked out.(SYO participants will still participate in the Arrowhead Fastpitch league - Duluth area).
  2. In a related matter, 8U softball participants, which have been a very small group in recent years, will be given an opportunity to choose to participate in our Rookie League (which has always been a mix of boys and girls) or in 10U softball participation.

SYO is excited to announce a new approach with our Cal Ripken Junior League.  The Cal Junior League will be using a draft to determine teams in 2017.  The ultimate goal is to create a more competitive league and having a draft will help coaches divide players more evenly by current skill level.

Our Cal Ripken Junior league closely mirrors our Cal Ripken Senior league, where players pitch and play on the same field (with similar rules).  We have always done a draft at the Cal Senior level.  Our Instructional League (coach pitch) and Rookie League (machine pitch) will continue to make rosters based off of school attendance.

*For 2017, ALL Cal Junior players will take part in the evaluations and draft.

*Cal Junior Tryouts have been set for Sunday, April 2, 12:00-4:00, at Superior High School.  Age groups will be split - more details to follow.

*Cal Senior Tryouts have been set for Sunday, April 9 12 - 3 at Superior High School

*Please continue to help spread the word on registering for summer baseball and softball before our March 31 deadline and Thanks for choosing the SYO!
