August 1, 2013
The Northwestern Tigers succeeded in winning the Babe Ruth League playoffs after a tough battle against the Brewers. The tournament began on July 28th with the Phillies loosing to the Brewers. Northwestern then took on the Reds and the Brewers took on the Yankees on the 29th handing the Reds and the Yankees their first loses. On the 30th, the Phillies lost to the Reds bouncing them out of the tournament and the Yankees took on the Reds bouncing them out of the tournament. The 31st pitted the Brewers against Northwestern and handed the Brewers their first loss in the double elimination tourney and the Brewers moved on to defeat the Yankees, bouncing the Yankees out of the race. The 1st of August was championship game day, with the Brewers defeating the Tigers 12-11 in the first game, handing the Tigers their first loss and leading to the necessity of playing a 9th game to determine the champ. The final game of the season was a barn burner, and Northwetern hung on to win the 2013 Babe Ruth Tournament by a score of 8 to 6. Thanks to all the Babe Ruth League participants this year, despite all the rain outs, we managed to finish the season only having to cancel two games. All in all, not a bad record. I look forward to seeing all the 14 year olds next year as 15 year old players and congratulate those players that will age out and wish them well on their future baseball carreers in either High School or Legion Ball. It was a pleasure being your commissioner this year and have a safe off season. Sincerely, Ed Anderson.
