UPDATE: Major League Baseball's Pitch, Hit, and Run Contest
Update: new date (weather permitting).
Saturday, May 19th, 1-3 pm
New location: Bykota Senior Center
Towsontowne Youth Baseball is hosting Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit, and Run Baseball Contest. All youth, ages 7-14 (as of July 17, 2018!), are welcome.
Please come join the fun. Winners of each skill and the overall winner will advance to the Sectional level Sunday, May 20th. Some of our previous Towsontowne winners have advanced even further, to the Regional Level at Camden Yards!
When: Saturday, May 19th, 1-3 pm.
Who: Boys and girls ages 7-14 (as of July 17th) (Winners will be required to provide a birth certificate to advance.) Players compete in age groups: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, or 13-14.
What: Players test their skills in Pitching, Hitting, and Running.
Pitching: All players pitch 6 baseballs from 45 feet to see how many strikes they can throw.
Hitting: All players take 3 swings at baseballs on an adjustable tee to see how far they can hit a baseball in the air in a straight line up the middle of the field. Players can use their own bats, no restrictions of size or weight of the bat. The place where the baseball first touches the ground is used to determine the distance.
Running: All players will run 120 feet to see how fast they can turn third and touch home.
Where: Bykota Senior Center, Joppa and Central Avenue in Towson.
Why: To have fun, of course.
How long: Depending on the number of Volunteers helping it should last between a half hour and one hour.
Suggestions: Wear baseball/running shoes for grass or black top. We will not use the dirt infield. Come early to warm up your arm. Before that day, practice hitting upward off the tee and pitching from 45 feet.
Please register and get more information from the MLB PHR website. https://www.pitchhitrun.com/find (Search zip code 21204 for our two dates.) That way we will know how many players to expect and whom to contact if needed. Walk ups are welcome.
We will need volunteers, too. Parents will be asked to help.
