On December 1, Vista High School Principal Anthony Barela announced Dan Williams will no longer be serving as Head Football Coach at Vista High School.
Coach Williams was a 1983 VHS Graduate, and grew up within Big Red Football having played varsity football in ’81 (13-0 CIF Champs) and ’82, became a VHS assistant coach in ’91 before being tapped in 2004 to lead the Panthers. Dan is a direct link to the Dick Haines legacy having played and coached under the Panther Football Legend. Coach Williams led the Panthers for 12 seasons from 2004-2015 compiling a 77-61-2 overall record. Under his stewardship, Vista teams won 2 SD-CIF Division 1 Championships and were D1 Runners-up twice. In the Coach Williams Era, Vista’s teams were known for their fierce defense and punishing running game. In coaching circles, Coach Williams is known as a defensive football innovator and Vista High is often referred to as “Linebacker High School” due to his defensive schemes which showcased the position. Under Dan’s direction, Vista played an “anyone, anywhere, anytime” schedule, highlighted by prominent opponents from the CIF Southern Section and out of State…This was more out of necessity as many local programs would refuse to schedule Vista with respect to the Panther’s physical style of play. He has coached numerous kids – far too many to list – who went on became future football playing collegians and professionals and almost countless more who would become productive citizens; but more importantly Dan Williams has also been a positive influence and role model who mentored boys into becoming hard working young men. Former players came back, as he oncedid, to coach alongside their mentor - some of whom are now credentialed teachers in Vista USD and giving back to the program that gave them so much. His coaching tree includes assistant and head coaches at high schools and colleges throughout the country. Dan Williams leaves as his legacy having successfully maintained the Big Red Football traditions brought to Vista by Coach Dick Haines and having brought the program its 8th and 9th CIF titles. He also departs with the love, respect, and admiration of his players, coaches, peers, and community, as well from the families that supported him and entrusted their boys (and at least 1 girl) to his tutelage. Vista Football is a better place from when Coach Williams took over.
Best wishes to Coach Dan Williams in his future endeavors.

The Vista High Football Team is in need of a number of team sponsorships for the 2015 Season.
The VHS Football Family strives to provide an atmosphere that fosters dedication, pride, and ultimately success. Our goal is to maintain the safest and most successful environment possible for all players.
To transport 100-125 players and coaches to games each week creates a huge commitment of funds. Our hopes are that the Big Red community will rally together to find a way to get our players to games safely.
